Hey studmonkey what are you doing for suspension on that truck?  I can understand using Marsprings but you gotta do something different!
I think I will be running the marsprings in the front (doctors orders) and then Im not sure about the rear. I dont want to wait for alcans and IM NOT going to use any All Poo parts on this rig because personally I just dont like them.

I dont like how long chevys are, so I might try some wagoneer springs. WT, what combo would work for about 3-4" lift back there? For the shackle length, just pretend :psss: that I will be using standard lift shackles :psss:

Hey Mike, we all know what you're doing for the drivetrain on this bad boy, but do you have a plan for the body?  Are you going to leave it how it sits and do some trimming, or do you plan on painting it.  If so, what's the color/scheme?

Yeah, I need to do something about that but I would much rather get it running perfect before I make it look good. Thats always for last for me. Marlin and Chris think I should paint it "Company Red" to 1) match Marlin's truck and 2) it stands out in pics. Sure red is a great picture color, but I just dont want to look like I'm copying my fathers truck. No one seems to understand why I feel this way. I'll be near his footsteps but not in them. I really want to paint it a really strong+bold blue or a very bright alpine white of some sort. I like white. There's just something about white cars. White cars seem to be the best. Just take my MR2 for example :sly:

Here's the Toyota blue Im talking about:

or

I think that would be a sweet color and, like everyone else, its my fav color. So, yeah, now that im looking at that blue, I think that's what Im gonna do.

hey i wouldnt want the truck to be the same color as the old mans. there needs to be some individuality between the 2 rigs. why not go white to match the mr2? with black wheels? i think that would be sweet! thats just me though i like white

For sure Ive already committed to black wheels. I love em on the mr2 and so the truck's get'n em too.

That's what I originally thought would be cool is having a white car and a white truck. I wanna take a pic of the two parked next to each other. That would be killer. A sweet car and a sweet truck

Ill bet you are thinking of the wheels that were on my truck in Goldendale.  They are completely blacked out, not even a stripe around the bead.  They have 8 round holes, they are called "soft eight"  They are made by allied wheels.

He just might you never know.  I just hope he doesnt find a bent frame ;)

Hey Mike the offer still stands, if I drive down there can I paint your truck??  Oh yea on the springs, caddies would work real well but they are really soft.  By themselves they are good for 3" after you add a leaf or 2 they would be right up your alley.

Hey guys, Im sneaking in on my lunch break here at work :chew:

Rear 4link, come on get technical ;)

Well, this may be wishful thinking, but the reason I am trying to jam with the engine is because Marlin will be going on the Dusy again at the end of August and Im trying to push to get it ready by then. It all depends on how fast I can get the engine in, running, smoged, and get the truck registered. If I can do all that in a relatively short time, then Im sure I can get the suspension setup with at least a locker in the rear. That would be sooo cool to be able to go wheeling with that old fart.

So I may build some trick system much later, but now I just want to get the thing going so I can play on some rocks

Ok BLF, will do. I really want to increase the range by as much as possible, especially since a larger tank is readily available. Thats one thing I dislike about the MR2 is theirs no room for a larger tank!

Regards,
BigMike

hey since your so worried about getting it smogged. when u go to get the new plated and tabs and they ask for your smog sheet. tell them u just bought the truck and the motor is toast. your buying the tabs because there bad and the truck is on a public street. so u dont want to get a ticket with the tabs being bad!

Also, does any1 have any pictures of their engine bay after removing the inner fender walls? I want to do this for increased cooling, and 2 things, 1, I have not looked at the inner fenders yet, and 2 I've never seen up close in detail what needs to be done to remove them. How much does this weaken the cab and do you ever use some braces to help support it?

So if someone could post some pics of removed engine bay inner fender walls, let's see em! :scared:

My advice.. DON'T DO IT!

My truck is soooo hot to ride in - the exhuast heat just comes right around into the cab! I need to put my inner fender wells back!

I can't find a good pic of mine, I'll have to take one..

What if you just pop some holes into the inner fender?....you think the cab would still run hot? :headscratch:

I don't get what you are saying. I cut the inner fenders out and now the heat goes straight out the side into the cab = bad.

Engine doesn't get hot - that is not a problem - just the cab! (no doors)

the way you "get around it" is by putting the veh. with no eng. you just got into "non op"  if you want to park it on a street and not get a ticket, well it has to be smoged!  :-\\

Hey mikey, I was under my 83 looking at the tank. MAN there is no room under there. the rear of the tank is like 1.5 inches from the shock . and the front is very close to the cab.   maybe mines diff. cuzes it the custom cab thingy.

to bad the exhoust is not some where elas so I could put a sec. tank op. the stock one.  :shake_head:

When I got my '81 we told the DMV that the truck has a blown motor so we can't get it smogged.  And we also told them that the only place we can park it is on a public street, so we need the tabs.  They happily gave us the tabs and that was that.  I guess it's different in California.  The catch is that I have to have it smogged next year, but guess what, next year it'll be 25 years old and I won't have to get it smogged.  WA rocks!
