Topic: The used diesel truck market

I'm not sure about California but the price of fuel in the midwest jumped from 2.20 to 2.97 in one week. What has or is happening to the price of used diesel trucks? I am guessing I just lost at least $3,000 in value on my 01 F-350 due to the increase in fuel prices. What are your thoughts?

Another factor is the big three know that demand will soften for trucks and SUV's. Why buy what's used, when deep discounts and nearly zero percent interest might be in the pipes for new.

It's been quite some time since we've even seen prices below $3, now cheap gas $3.50

Diesel is about 3.90 around this area (Reno, NV)


Damn, just did a KBB assessment of my truck.  Its worth has dropped about 3K using the same #'s that it had when I bought it in Sept.

Oh well, didn't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon anyway

Where in the midwest is it $2.97?  Its $3.59 in St. louis. MO 

Anyway, the oil companies are driving diesel fuel prices up because they are fighting the automakers trends to develope more diesel powered vehicles in the US.   Diesel is more efficient than gas and the consumption will ultimately be less if the US converts to diesel like the rest of the world.  The oil companies obviously do not want more efficient vehicles in the US market.

Ultimately I don't think it has hurt the value of diesel trucks.  Their superior to gas fuel economy still makes them hold their value really well.  In the long run though as the US makes diesel fuel more and more environmentally friendly our older diesel trucks may eventually not be able to run these new fuels without alterations, which are likely to be very expensive.

diesel is $4.25 cash $4.30 credit in PA  but i still want a  2000 extended cab 2500 series dodge with stacks  those cummins' sound sooooooo sweet    around here the diesel trucks and cars keep coming down in price can't wait till i can get one for mega cheap

diesel is running $4 since last week and its like 3.53 for regular in portland oregon man i cant wait to convert to propane. its only 2.65 right now

Not only that, but all of our war machines run on diesel, creating a higher demand for the fuel.
