To drill or not to drill my PS restrictor

I ran out of time on my High flow pump project and I need my rig going this weekend so I'm slapping a reman on for a while. I have a stock 3.0 V6 pump sitting here on my workbench ready to go in. I have Hydro Assist and a Hayden cooler. After reading the huge Pump mods and hydro assist on the cheap threads it seems people are 50/50 on whether or not to drill the pump. I don't want it squeeling and crapping out on me again after only a couple runs. So to drill or not to drill that is the question....

Do it....it takes about 10 minutes plus rebleeding time! wont hurt anything...

I used a nail I found on my garage floor to poke mine out

I have drilled 2 PS pumps with identical setups.  One made racket like a cat in a blender and the other no problems.  Worth a shot in a pinch but upgrade to a pump with increased flow.

It's quick and easy. Makes a world of difference. If you are worried about a squeal, don't jump up to a 13/32. Do a size between stock and the 13/32 and with your cooler you should have no problems.  I still feel that if you run a large cooler, you shouldn't have a problem. None of the setups I have done have squeeled and I've always run a decent sized tranny cooler with no oversized reservoir.

Did you hydro it?   Is that why you wish to drill it out?  If you did hydro assist it, and you drive on the street, you pretty much HAVE to drill it out.  I've found low RPM's and quick turns = not turning at all = not fun on city streets.

Or on the trail if you have to make a quick decision......the increase in response is well worth it (for safety reasons) I agree.

I've been running it for a few months now without it drilled and it's fine. The only time I notice a delay is if I'm trying to back into a parking space or something and I'm at idle. Anything about 1000rpms and it's fine. One of these days I'll get around to upgrading my pump.

Good to hear.  I drilled mine out as well and it works fine.  I will be upgrading the pump after I can get the truck caged.
