CV rear driveshaft
« on: Mar 17, 2008, 06:25:18 PM »
Who runs a cv shaft on the rear after doing a dual case setup. my t-case end joint is at a pretty horrific angle, and is giving me a lot of vibes. This is with two regular u-joints.

I run the CV and have little to no vibration... It's a tom woods shaft :)

I run them front and rear, smooth as glass. Didn't realize I had driveline vibes until I put the CV in the rear actually. Let me know if you want to check it out sometime.

You can get a 96-02 taco/4Runner rear shaft from a junkyared, they have a cv built into them from the factory.  Then just get it cut to length.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I've got an old front shaft with the later type, lower deflection, cv. either gonna try that or get a used cv rear shaft and cut it down, whichever is cheaper.
Cam01 i'll pm ya.

what kidna problems (if any) do you run into with the cv hitting the horsecollar crossmember

I got one too.  Taco CV from High angle driveline.  188 wall.

No way I'd run a stock tube if you ever plan on visiting rocks.  (if you drive to/from the trails)

Tom Woods CV in the rear. I notched my horse collar crossmember( 85 4runner). Stock CV in the front converted to a square shaft. All work awesome, no vibes(except for the square one obviously).

I did not replate it, I was informed that it was not a structual x member. I didn't take any pics of it. I just cut a rectangle out of the bottom of it and left part of the top of the x member there. So it is still intact and rigid, just with about a 2" tall and 5" wide rectangle cut out.

That crossmember IS structural.  Try getting rid of it altogether, your body mounts will shred your floor...  ;)

I took mine completely out and replaced it with a 2x2x3/16" tube welded to the top of the frame a bit farther back.  I may have to get rid of that and go higher when I put the rear disco in there.. we'll see.

cool. I'm gonna cut it out and make room for the cv, will either re-plate it or cut it out and put in a replacement. Should be fine to run with it notched for a week or so at least.

Thanks for all the help guys and gals

Well if it is structrual, I have a thick a$$ t-case crossmember that is bolted on right in front of the horse shoe crossmember. I think that I'll be alright.
