kinda figured that i would be out alot, whats the air forces policy on extra body armor for the extremeties? ie crotch, neck, and shoulder protection such as purchasing the dragon skin stuff from pinnacle armor? i know the army doesnt allow it, the marines do, but i dont know the air forces view.

lol i dont think ur gonna break somethin on ur jeep, you dont hammer it offroad from what i've seen.

if i dont make EOD my aptitude field is mechanical so i'd probably  get transferred to working on jet engines or ground equipment.

As far as the Dragon Skin goes.... the military in general isn't using it because it can only take 110 degree temps before the fiber starts to break down and become weak. Don't get me wrong, it's going to be a great thing for the military, when and if they fix the problem.

We wear DAPS... shoulder, crotch, neck, and then there is extra plating for your side's with little armor plating.... they work excelent, but when you attach everything on them plus ammo, grenade's, slap flares, and what ever else you take with you, your vest weight's any where from 55 pounds to 80.... mine right now weights about 70...

And no, the Air Force will not discharge you if you fail out of your school. Most EOD washout's get pushed into the Security Forces field of work. This is what i am in. It's not a bad career, but if i were you, work your butt off to not washout.

Good luck Dan, and hopefully i will see you and some AF base out there.

yep i'm takin it to florida when i get shipped to EOD school. been considering that possibility peter, could probably get what i have in it but theres not much wrong with it. 4 rust holes in the floor, 3 that are fist sized, cheap/easy to replace then that one long one along the tailgate. needs a tailgate-cheap
front fenders-cheap
grill-free to cheap
then paint and a driver seat. nothing mechanically wrong with it as you've seen, takes a pounding without hesitation and drives just fine on the highway.

toss up either way, sell it to somebody while i'm in boot camp and purchase a replacement rig down in florida, or take it to florida and fix it up.

pay to drive it? either a) my dad will tow it down when he brings my sister's stuff down to her place and the air force will ship it from there or b) the air force will ship it and my stuff from my parents place in utah. only issue with b) is the motorcycle is in a seperate location and i dont think the air force will ship it because of that.

good luck to ya, red. I don't know if Florida is ready for you, but you're welcome here. maybe by the time you get thru basic and get some leave time, those of us around this area could put together a run somewhere.

My son in law is in EOD school right now, and he is doing good. Give it everything you got and you should be OK. And like everyone else said, take care of yourself once you deploy. Thanks for serving, too. :usa:

It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Ya, the extra weight isn't a big deal, but i have found myself getting a compressed spine because of it... went to the doc becuase i might have a compress disc near the base of my neck, don't know why it would be there....

I would sell your truck buddy, it will make getting from point A to B when moving from basic to tech school to your first base. And yes, you are right, the military will pay to have it shipped, but only to your first base.... and your right, since your bike isn't at your current household, they won't ship it. The best thing i could suggest it to sell your Blazer and drive your bike down to Texas and then to Florida for your tech school.

Good luck and have fun. REMEMBER!!!!!! don't volunteer for anything, if you get picked to do it, then do it to your best. Be carefull in the chow hall, and learn to eat fast. You won't have a problem drinking plently of water, and pay attention in your classes. Again, good luck Dan, and have fun.

is it true that when your 4 years or whatever is up the army can make you go do more? there is or will be a movie coming out about that..
_[O!!!!!O]_

LOL @ IFS

Not sure about the Army, but the USAF is an eight year contract.  Either four or six of that is active, and the rest is inactive reserve where they can call you back up if they need you.  The likelyhood of that is next to nil, though.

Unless he is talking about Stop Loss... Stop Loss mean that the military can extend your contract without you signing. I had a friend that was Stop Lossed for almost two years, it all depends on how low maned the career field is and how critical the career field is.... If your in Security Forces, if your deployed and manning is down, they may Stop Loss you for the next six month's
