Hey Blucruz what does a locked up torque converter do?

I believe all torque converters lock up at some point, but I found one that locks up at a very low rpm so I have less slippage from my automatic tranny at lower speeds. Mine locks up tight somewhere around 800 to 1000 rpm so I can get maximun torque to the wheels quick and keep it there- it's a u-joint buster for sure. I'm no automatic expert so I told the guy at the tranny shop what I wanted when he was rebuilding my 400 & he brought out this torque converter that was huge compared to the one that I had on there originally and said this will give you what you want. That was about 7-8 years ago, I think It was like $200 bucks for the converter then

Chances are its either a Allison converter or from a diesel.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Still in progress but it seems to work fine. I have even dented the corners of the hood going up Peckerwood at Tellico. i didn't want much of a hood but I wanted to cover the engine. I will eventually add some "fenders" to the side of the hood and narrow a Toyota grill for the front
