this is a great site to buy a CO2 bottle and regulator!!! they are for kegs but will work for airing up tires, tools, etc. on the trail. $84 for a 10lb. bottle and another $38 for the regulator!

screw the air tank ill take the keg  theres another sight that sells airtanks for that spacific reason in different sizes ill find it for ya
http://www.powertank.com/ although the price is alot more than i thaught it was

Ya I dont get why powertanks are like $400. I talked to my guy at the local welding shop and he'd give me a 20 lb. bottle for $80 and said he'd change the fittings on one of my old oxygen regs. for $10 for the parts. Then a hose and tire chuck and your set.

yotaboy79

yeah it dont make sense :headscratch:

Rockcrawlintoy

i would suggest a regulator that is pre set at a set PSI. i talked to the guy at the welding shop and told him what i was doin with my tank and he said it would be waaaay more duarable compared to an adjustable regulator.

Ya but even buying a pre-set reg. you'd still have a 20 lb. tank for less than half of what Powertanks sell for, of course you dont get the pretty powdercoated bottle or a mounting bracket.

SWAMPER

Could you just buy the mounting braket and spray paint the sucker?

SWAMPER

Alright LilSwamper got it right...well and for those without fab'ing skills (me) I bet you could just ask Powertancks whatever to only sell you the mountin brackets.

Here is the page for the tanks -       http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/tanks/co2.shtml

and the one for the regulators -
http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/regulators/co2-premium.shtml

Basically you just need the CO2 tank and the regulator from this site, and then some air hose and fittings. You could buy and size tanks listed there, then get a double gauge regulator and put it on the tank, one gauge would measure the tanks PSI, and the other one would show the regulated amount of PSI coming out of the tank throught the hose, which with the regulator you would be able to control. I would get the standard double gauge regulator($49) and if you have the room you might as well go with the 20lb tank($98) since it's only $14 more than the 10lb tank($84) and would last a lot longer between refills. So thats about $150 for both, half the price of the powertank system. I asked my local painter and he said $30 to powdercoat the tank, or you could spray paint it for $5. You could go the harware store and create your own mounting system somehow I bet with some creativity, or buy a wall mounting kit for a fire extinguisher, about $12. Even if you id all of this and bought an air hose and fittings your still at like $200. Sorry so long.

ok that all made more sense thanks

Has anyone tried this idea?  I'm not bashing, just noticed that the regulators at that site only go to 65psi,  but the powertank, source regs go to at least 110psi( powertank 200).  Just wondered if there was a speed problem or how air tools would work?

good point, didn't notice that. Does anyone know how much regulators for the powertanks are, I guess you could still just save money on the tank, but I would be suprised if you couldn't find the same reg. as the powertank one for a little less money somewhere?

you would thimnk that powertank is probably just buying those regs from somewhere and putting their name on it.  I like that site, though.  If you knew all you would use it for is tires that would save a bunch of money.

Well I could use my SCUBA tank, heck I have i now! and the reg is preset to 150psi, and it has a pressure take off for the BC infalter too. just use the quick disconnect for the air chuck or air gun!   :twocents:

any other divers on the borad with there own tanks?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

yotaboy79

any welding shop should be able to get a regulator that will work just get the tank and bring it down there to test fit the reg to make shure it will fit

SWAMPER

Hey brainless...how much did that tank cost you...and how many pounds can it hold?

I bet my 20 oz. paintball gun tanks would work for quick air ups. Anybody eve tried or heard of this. They are small and light, easy to stow away.

Take a look at this website.  http://www.stainlessoffroad.com/offroadstore/pc/viewCat_m.asp?idCategory=546     They sell a complete setup for $212.  Their CO2 tank setups are much less expensive than Powertank.

my whole on board air setup only cost a little more than a 100.
and it never has to be refilled.
sure i dont have ac (never did) but you can fab brackets to run a second ac pump and keep your existing ac.

true but more things to go wrong etc. I'll be getting a tank soon, I like that you can run air tools off of it and it is fully portable (I think you can take em into the pick n pulls now).

2 weekends ago i was running air tools off of mine.
had to use the impact gun to undo some ring gear bolts.
sure was nice to use air tools on the trail.
helped air up a sand rail last weekend also. he tore a sidewall so we pluggeg it for him and used my oba to reseat the bead and air him up.
i dont know how i went so long without it.
think i might do an on board welder in the future.

good to know..

All I know is my lil caddy compressors shorted out and I drove from Tahoma all the way to Meyers on 9psi and that sucked - expecially with a spool on those 10mph curves.

Time for something!
