86 and later rearends

I have been reading that it is wise to swap to a 86 and later rearend if you have lots of flex.  This due to the tire hitting the frame.  I have a question about those reaends.  Do both 4 cyl and v6 third members fit in the housing?  I would definetly be going with the stronger v6 gears.

as far as i know the v6 3rd member will go right in there

Yes cause it's 3" wider than 79-85. Yes the v-6 & 4cyl thirds are interchangable in all 79 to 88 housings. Newer Tacoma e-locker thirds will fit too with some minor modifications to the housing.

Any standard 8" Toy diff will fit in there.

how much better is the v6 3rd. and is the fj80 an 8"

86 runner I was wondering the same thing myself.  I want to go with the 86 rearend in the back with a v6 third member and up front use a fj80 for the high pinion.

The v-6 has more ribs for strength in the 3rd member casting and that's about all I know
