I have been reading that it is wise to swap to a 86 and later rearend if you have lots of flex.  This due to the tire hitting the frame.  I have a question about those reaends.  Do both 4 cyl and v6 third members fit in the housing?  I would definetly be going with the stronger v6 gears.

as far as i know the v6 3rd member will go right in there

Yes cause it's 3" wider than 79-85. Yes the v-6 & 4cyl thirds are interchangable in all 79 to 88 housings. Newer Tacoma e-locker thirds will fit too with some minor modifications to the housing. :beerchug:

Any standard 8" Toy diff will fit in there.

86 runner I was wondering the same thing myself.  I want to go with the 86 rearend in the back with a v6 third member and up front use a fj80 for the high pinion.

The v-6 has more ribs for strength in the 3rd member casting and that's about all I know  :dunno:
