Just as the title states, just curious if I can put a e-locked tacoma rear end from an '03 into my '85?

Any problems with that?

Thanks, D.

Whole rear end or just the drop-in?

whole rear end----Yes

Drop-in yes with mods to the housing. If you are going to do that get a rear end from an IFS rig it is three inches wider

Yea, it would be the entire rear-end, anything different from the taco rear axles over the 86-96? IFS rear axles?

Just a little thicker/heavier housing I think. Just make sure the axle you get has the same gears as your front axle.....or change them before you put it into 4WD.

you can do it, but be prepared the taco rear is a little bit wider and the springs are in a different spot, also might want to look into a brake proportioning valve as the brake are different sized

Alright, so just to have my checklist right, it will be re-geared to match the front, I was planning on shaving the perches so I can rotate the housing anyway, and a proportioning valve is in the process of being put in with the new master cylinder, should that be everything?

I got the axle for a steal, so I thought it would be simpler to just throw it in instead of modding my '88 housing for the e-locker.

Thanks for the help guys

The Taco housing is wider than the IFS housing (60" vs 58"). How will you make the front width match? 3" spacers?

IFS hubs, and some 1 1/2 spacers would work too.

Gittinit read my mind. I'm also looking in to getting a FJ80 front axle, I know someone that knows someone hah, just got rear-ended in his land cruiser, total loss, trying to get the front axle from him. Whats the width on them? would it match the taco rear end pretty close?

He got hit caddy cornered in the rear, it is pretty ugly back there. I'll try and get some pics when I go back to where he's storing it.
