Installing Electric Locker in front Diff.
« on: Jan 27, 2008, 05:39:37 PM »
I am installing an electric locker in the front diff of an 81 pickup. I have installed in the 3rd member and i placed in the housing and it is hung and will not come out. Has anyone heard of this problem?

I think so. It moves easy on the driver side, but only moves 1/8 inch out on pass side.

did you somehow short out the motor for the locker?

Bought this 3erd used and did not know that it needed to be locked too fit into the housing. I have not put power to it yet, but will i need to too lock it?

If you are trying to move the engagement fork while it is still in the 3rd member, you are probably going to have to lift both front tires off of the ground.

you may also want to remove the motor until your fit is perfect, to prevent damage and also to make intstall and removal easier- i did that

I had the same thing happen last weekend with my front diff.  I made the circuit from this page, locked the stuck 3rd, and it came right out no problem.
