Way before I heard of a twin stick, I would put my truck n 4lo with hubs unlocked, to help with pullin our lil boat out. I would also do this when on a bfe road, and it was a steep hill. Is this bad? What is the benefit of a twin stick? Doesnt doing this accomplish the same thing? Do people just buy them to have another stick? I know how we all like shift levers!

it  wont hurt anything in the early  trucks  when you  need it,  but  the  twin stick  is designed to give you 2 lo  when the hubs are locked  and your on the trail

You should be able to get some more economy, and their wont be the wear and tear on the front end when you run twins.  But if you dont run it in two low often it may not be worth it!  I used to do it in my chevy when I was on the ranch, but I didnt usually do it on the hwy.

If you have a locker in the front (or a spool for that matter) making a tight turn can be difficult.  So on parts of a trail when you don't need 4wd, you can use 2Lo to make turns and get you to the next obstacle without getting out the truck to unlock the hubs or switching to 2Hi.

That is why I'm going selectable on my 4runner.  So I can turn the locker off.  But auto lockers/and spools are much cheaper to install and arguably more reliable  so a twin stick is a nice option.

Yep it's the same. It just keeps you from having to jump out and unlock the hubs to make a tight turns on the trail. And what you are doing will not hurt anything.

I've been contiplating putting a dana 300 behind my crawlbox, for a true twin stick, and a slightly lower stock lowrange. Front digs Baby!

holly molly! Mabye the dana 300 is the better choice. Big price tags scare me! It all kinda sucks though couse I don't want no jeep parts on my toy and marlin dosent seem to be coming out with an alternative to getting front wheel drive only in a toy case. When it finally does happen it prolly wouldn't be a cost effective, compared to the dana case? Urgh what do do, time will tell.

Since he was working on it long ago and very hard and it just fell off the papers, I'd be willing to bet somebody who moved to another company tried stealing the ideas and progress marlin had already made and he was forced to give up.  Just a thought, can't think of any other reason why it would have been back-shelfed for so long :dunno:

I think I'm just skeert that if I go away from a slightly modified factory desighn, I might not have much toyota left before long. The dana tcase may be the mod that leads to dana 60s and a v8. Thats not a bad thing, but I take pride in being able to say I have an "all toyota " rig.

I have considered many different configurations including a 4.o to 5 speed to toy case option I have been dreaming of. All in all I like it the way it is and may have to do something more exocit on a different build.
