Code 52 Knock Sensor Questions (interchange sensors?)
« on: Jan 24, 2008, 02:47:43 PM »
I have a 94 truck with a 22re and code 52.  This is a knock sensor circuit or pcm issue.  I need a new sensor, the connector is busted out of the sensor.  On to my questions, I have a 91 with a 22re, will this knock sensor work?  I talked to a toyota parts guy today and he said that 92 to 95 would work but I don't think he looked to see if the part numbers between a 91 and 94 would be the same.  I am also getting a code 13, now I'm planning to put in the new knock sensor and see if this clears up both issues, if not any tips on where to start or known failures that could cause this?  I haven't investigated code 13 at all yet, I'm going to look in the 93fsm online and see what it has to say.

Thanks
Andrew

Well  I just looked on the napa site, the part numbers don't match between the 91 and 94 and according to the pictures the connector end is different.  Funniest thing is the cheapest place I've found a knock sensor yet is the dealer.  Well I'll have it monday and hopefully it will fix code 13 also.

Well I guess I'll bring some closure to this issue.  I replaced the knock sensor and the truck runs a 100 times better (obviously) and I also have no code 52, and code 13 has not come back either.

The truck had very little power and I was getting terrible fuel milage.  It didn't seem to miss at all though.  The part cost about 150 I think, and it was from toyota, which was the cheapest place and the quickest to get.  It isn't too bad to change either, you'll need a 27mm socket, approx 12" extension and a universal.  It is between the fuel filter and oil filter, single wire connector.
