So the Wolverine was the name of the 2WD to 4WD Hilux conversions in the 70s? If so, then can anyone tell me what this is??

Man the brown one looks like a turtle shell! Never seen one like that either.

Here is a pic of the 2 door 4runner on craigslist.

Is a 4Runner 2-wheel drive only or are there 4x4 versions as well?

There are, unfortunately 2 wheel drive 4runners.

2wd 2nd gen 4runners are very common. I've had a whole bunch if em. They are super cheap and easy to SAS because the diff is already out of the way.

Please help me understand where the PreRunners fit in the TACO series over the different generations of TOYOTA trucks?

A pre runner is basically a 4wd Tacoma that does not have a transfer case or front differential. The suspension otherwise is the same. Tacoma started in 1995.5 and is still in production. After a quick wiki research pre runners started in 1998.

In Mobile Alabama there were quite a few sold between 98-2000. Half the kids I went to school with had them because moms and pops wouldnt spring the coin for a 4wd.
