Rubicon Anouncements: PLEASE READ
« on: Jun 15, 2004, 08:27:49 PM »
The FOTR, USFS, POR and many other hard working clubs and organizations are asking for your help and voluntary efforts.

As we all know the Rubicon trail is more populated than ever these days, as witnessed by many on the Memorial Day weekend 2004.

We are asking as a United Group that all Wheelers, ATV'ers or anyone camping at Spider Lake to Voluntarly camp at least 30ft. from the lake waterfront. By doing this it will lesson the impact of Human Waste and Garbage that is having adverse affects on the water quality and overall health of the lake and shoreline.

Some will ask why 30ft.? This is the recommended distance that the USFS has advised at this time.

By doing this and educating everyone it will keep the USFS and private property owners from having to set permenent boundries, which is something no one wants.

Please pass this information along to everyone in our sport on or off the trail.

There are many other issues and that surround this voluntary action and those will be annouced soon by FOTR.

We hope everyone can help in this important effort.

Thanks All!

How Can You Best Help the Rubicon?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best thing to do is visit my web site and decide how you can best help. Joining clubs and national groups is ALWAYS a help (like the BlueRibbon Coalition). Writing letters to your congressman helps.
Donating a few bucks to your favorite group helps. Visit:
www.delalbright.com/ for more

Thanks and write anytime,
Del

From the looks of it, Spider Lake is to be made off-limits.  :rivers:  It seem that everone is crapping around the lake so they are going to close access for 120 days while they check the damage that irresponsible people have caused to the lake and the water. Here are a couple topics on the issue:

http://www.spinninfours.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=287

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266370&page=1&pp=25

We cannot let this happen, I very much enjoy camping at Spider when I go. I am wondering where it all comes from since every time I camp there I don't really see a lot of people camping there. What I do see is a lot of vultures at the little sluice watching the carnage, then walking up the slab and doing thier business (I suppose) at the lake. It would be sad if they close it permanently, I've had lots of fun there. If all who go into this or any area would just use some common sense we would not have this problem now. If you don't know about this product and do any back-country travel you should check it out awkward to use at first, but once you get used to them they are easy. Plus the chemicals inside cause less stench than all those empty beer cans you hide from the man in your stuff.

Buy them, use them: http://www.thepett.com/

All you really need is the Wag Bag and your shovel dig a small hole put the bag in, do your business then close it up and TAKE IT WITH YOU!!! The chemicals inside take care of the rest. Oh, and don't forget to fill the hole you dug.

IM a little confused.  are people allowed to go through the box and watch people do so.
And is it ok to camp by the box as long as your 30ft away from spyder lake.

:screwy: And eveyone needs to realize what they are causing to themself and doing to the trail, but not only just that though.  What they are doing to everyone else who wants to enjoy offroading in general.

Right now you can go through the box but you can't camp at spider period.
