Duals and Bud light
« on: Jan 21, 2008, 04:15:58 PM »
Hey do any of you guys that have duals with the MC 07-R10 use the new Bud Built Lite crossmember??
I was thinking of getting the FROR x member, but I want a full skid plate like the bud built. I was thinking of using the bud lite and only using the front t-case mount for now, then fabbing up something for the rear clocked mount. Have any of you done this?? Is one t case mount strong enough with dual stock geared cases?

Any info would be awesome..

Thanks

You won't gain the full advantage of having a MC07 R10 if you use a budbuilt lite.

I ran one t-case mount on my BudBuilt for a few years without any problems. As Hotrod stated you will not get the full advantage of the clocking with a BB.

Flatter belly, what the "clocked" adapter is made for.

Well I went with the Bud Built Light crossmember. It showed up last night. Man that thing is beefy. I wanted the advantages of a full protection skid plate as well as the clocked double t-case. I know that I won't get the full advantage of the R10, but oh well. I can't wait to throw my truck back together now.

Will you get any benefit from having the R10 since the crossmember height can't change?  It seems that you have only eliminated the rear mount location thus weakening the setup?  Am I missing something?

I'm running that exact setup right now, mc07-r10 w/budlight cross memeber. The cross member defeats the purpose of clocking the cases, leaves a big gap between crossmember and case. I'm going to be using fror center section and building my own with a skid/belly pan. I love the crossmember, very nice product but just isn't going to work best for my application.  :twocents:

No you aren't missing anything, I just wasn't thinking when I ordered the R10. I ordered it because it was the "newest best thing out" I knew that I waned the full skid plate for sure, didn't really realize that the skid plate would limit the clearance and make the R-10 non beneficial. I'm just kinda retarded. You know the whole "Look before you leap" thing??  Ya my mommy forgot to teach me that. HA HA

It's a great product, looks and works awesome but if you run a clocked case it defeats the purpose of rotating the case because the crossmember is designed around unclocked cases.  :twocents:

Well I got everything put together and I am very happy with my decision to go with the Bud Built. It is much more beefy than I expected. I know that I don't get the advantage of the extra 3" or GC but my d-line is up out of the rocks a little more and I have a full skid plate. My runner is pretty tall and the GC isn't really an issue for me. I guess what I'm saying is that the full skid plate is worth the loss of GC for me.

I will have to get them uploaded. Have gotten yours all done yet? What did you end up doing with your horse collar crossmember?? The duals are awesome. Yesterday I idled up about a 10 foot snow pile using no gas at all, Just idle.

I got the rear shaft on for now, the horsecollar is just going to stay open notched like in the other thread.  If it starts to bend or rip at at the cuts it'll get reinforced for sure. I read where a couple of guys just took that crossmember out completly and have had no problems.  That's a little on the extreme side i think.

But aren't those duals kick ass! it's amazing the traction you gain going that slow. I really dig what you've done with your 85, the chip gaurd on the lower body line and the straight sheet metal... beautiful.  Post up those pics for sure man i'm very interested in what it's going to look like.

(oh P.S. i just now ordered your cross member from marlin :)

Ya I yanked the t-case out of my parts 4runner and made the crawl box out of that, so it is stock gearing in both cases.

Ya i'm only running 35's, with 5.29's in the axles so the stock gears should be fine for me. I can always upgrade to the 4.7's in the future if I want to .
