i dont know much about air compressors. has anyone done this? i know how to do it i just dont know if the compressor would be able handle it. sorry for the newb question. please post up pics if you have a similar setup. thanks

You can, it just may be slow to fill. I do not know what the CFM rating for the ARB is, but it likely isn't a lot. You might be better off running the ARB compressor and another electric pump feeding into the same tank to have some useable air on the trail.

thats what i was thinking. i got a homebrew setup coming straight out of the arb right now but i want an actual tank so the compressor isnt running forever. this is where i got the info for my setup. http://www.links4jeeps.com/writeups/arb_inflator/

Hard to make out, but it looks like the rating on the comp in those pics is less than 1 CFM. This is not going to fill a tank bigger than 1 gallon very fast to any measurable pressure. If you wanted to set up something like that write up I would def go with a second compressor. There are a few out there sub $50 that would be easy to run alongside the ARB into a small tank.

i believe its the older model that came with the lockers. model RDCKA. i dont think ARB sells them anymore. not too sure. what compressor/tank setup do you think i should go with? what are you guys running?

how does this compressor look to use with a tank for OBA? if i get this compressor i want to get rid of the setup i currently have on my arb compressor. also what size tanks are you running and where are you guys mounting them. thanks

This one has gotten good reviews and testing has shown it to be comperable to the viar units. Only 12v compressor that get significantly better ratings is the Oasis...$$$$$$$

nice find. after you posted that i did a search on pirate and found that they sell the mv1050 compressor for fairly cheap as well. i believe it is 2 mv50 mounted together. im definitely going to look into these. thanks a lot.

Can you run your locker off one of those co2 tanks? Might be more simple just to get one of those? Sorry if its off topic. Or another thing is the new motors on the some compressors are oiless put out a ton more output and are the size of vcr. I dont know if you can buy the compressor motor by itself.

The MV50 puts out 2.something CFM, not sure at what psi though. You can run lockers, etc off of them. With the right size tank small air tools in short bursts are possible.

My personal opinion is to set up some on board system over the CO2 tank as it is unlimited supply. I hate having tanks filled.

What about one of those pancake compressors and a small inverter? fairely inexpensive, you could seperate the motor and mount it in the cab, then run a hose to a tank?

Depends on the compressor. Don't forget, a 15amp ac compressor is gonna need MINIMUM 1500W inverter to have a prayer of running.

Thats doable, I think the air output would be enough better to merit the expense doesnt seem like those little auto ones do much!

i run my arb on CO2 its been about 5 years and i still have a good bit of co2 in the tank. i like the co2 because it cant fail other then notkeeping it filled

This is a great strategy if you are not using the air source to air tires back up. I usually need to put 10 #'s of air or so in before I get off the trail so I would rather have a renewable source.

That was my concern with 42s that I would be using uup the co2 tank too fast.

Iv been running the MV50 comp. for almost 2 years now. Hard mounted under the hood and plumbed to a 2.5G tank. Run my arb and have aired up my tires to many times to remember. Still running strong!

I just bought an ARB for my front diff, getting it installed hopefully in the next week. Looking for suggestiion on how to run it.

Is there a concern with compressors that it will put moisture in the oil over time? I know the big compressor in my garage builds up water and needs to be drained occasionaly. Do people use moisture separators?

Also, don't CO2 tanks hold like 1500-1800psi? I have a 20# one on my kegerator that has fed 6 kegs and still has 1300 in it. It's been so long I don't remember what it was like full. I bet it could fill a lot of tires no matter the size and still have plenty for the locker. Cost less than $20 to get it filled or exchanged.
