Moving Rear axle forward

How far forward can the rear axle be moved before the frame starts to get in the way? I've heard that 9" is doable, but I don't know which frame was being used. Aside from moving the gas tank and bobbing the front of the bed what else needs to be taken into consideration.
I want to keep my 63" Chevys so the 4 link is out for now.

I got the same problem.  I have an extra cab and i think the wheelbase is too long.  You also need to change the driveline, maybe brakes, shock mounts and like you said the gas tank.  I am thinking about moving my axle forward about 8 inches and building a flatbed.  But i need the money first plus my other projects need to get done.

You want a short wheel base just by a Jeep  You can move that axle forward as far as you want , just depends on hoe much fab work you want to do. You cane always notch your frame

I am sorry but WHY   

everyone in iceland are trying to move the front axle forward and the rear backwards.

I will move the rear backwards about 5" and the front about 2"  in my next proj.

if you arnt in comp dont move it right now there isent nothing that will out climb you

because for what you prolly do snow, ice, slippery hills and stuff like that a long wheel base is better but when you get onto tight trails some times you cant make it around a tight corner with a long wheel base and when you in rocks you have a better chance of getting hi centered

I had a problem on con where i believe my wheelbase was the key.  Toy with shorter wheelbases madei t easily and i got kinda stuck.  Thats why i am moving my rear axle forward.  But iam also moving my front axle forward too, only a couple inches though.

I would like to move the rear forward because it is a trail rig. Most of the trails that are run in FL are really tight. ATV trails mostly. I want to be closer to the 85 runner WB.~106"? Stock the xtra cab is ~112" with the rear spring in the front I'm at ~ 115. Moving the rear forward 9-10" would net the runner WB. I'm happy with the way my truck works right now I just don't always have room for a 3-point turn.
