After reading about the people who were stranded in the Sierra Nevada mountains this past week, and reading about how some people have never thought about bringing emergency supplies when wheelin, I though about what I keep in my truck all the time and what are some things that I should keep in the truck for an emergency situation like becoming stuck in a snow storm.

Things I keep in the truck at all times are:
Stove, Fuel, food, Fire source, knife, signal mirror, whistle, water, boots, goretex pants, waterproof jacket, gloves, beenie, a fleece, sleeping bag, spare socks, snow goggles, a backup jump start battery, cell phone charger and a few fluids. not to mention all the recovery gear that stays in my truck all the time, also a space blanket and first aid kit.

Things I wanna get: some sort of shelter and snow shoes.

The kids that were rescued up in Tahoe were very lucky to survive. how about everyone else.

usually i bring enough food and water for at least 3 days, make sure i have my gas tank topped off, 2 shovels, spare parts (the common things that break), always wheel with another rig, recovery gear, its good to have a CB, extra clothing, a chainsaw is great in case a tree blocks the way home, flares, first aid kid, and plenty of beer!!!

the #1 thing is to wheel with someone else, its stupid to go off in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere by yourself, thats when most people get screwed

well if you have plenty of beer you can count that as food, also you can use the empty cans to build a shelter or to spell out help, and the boxes make good fire starter!!

actually there is an article in this months maxim that shows how to make a stove out of 2 beer cans.

If I packed all that crap in my truck, I wouldn't have any room left for me.

Rockcrawlintoy

Doof

thats a pretty good list... after i clean mine out ill take an inventory and show you all what cool junk i have

Huhwhye

Good suggestions.

I also carry a bunch of glow sticks.  They last longer than flares and you can use them to light your tent/truck/shelter at night.  They are cheap too.  No sense wasting the batteries in your flashlight if you are just sitting still.  You might need that flashlight later.

Good thing to have if youre stuck overnight.

I also suggest adding toilet paper to the list.

Oh yes, TP, that is a must.  I have a roll in every vehicle and 1 in each emergency kit.

I also forgot to mention that I usually have a few of those cheap little candles and a few packs of matches sealed in plastic packages with my wifes food sealer.  Keeps 'em dry no matter what.

The sealer works good for other things to.  Like the spare roll of TP...
