Front is gonna be tall.

Also make sure to brace the back of the ford hangers to the frame.

Yup the front will be super tall.  Id leave the shackle in the frame and maybe use a 1" drop hanger instead of the 2".  Id be willing to bet that youd feel better about the swap later on down the road.

I have a few friends who run the same front setup.  I will run the shackles throught the frame right now since i don't have the money to buy new mounts.  I have ford shock towers on the front right now but they are mounted to low.  I need to cut them off and buy new ones to mount higher.  Here is the drop crossmember i will be using.  What i bought today: 2 peices of  2''x3''x30 1/2''  and  2 peices of 1/4''x 2"x6".  I would have just bought a 2''x6''x30 1/2'' peice but they didn't have any.  I started welding them together and them my welder ran outa wire.  The middle line down the metal will most likely be arc welded.

much better looking welds. both heat and feed look about right. or alest "close enuff for goverment work"

I do have a ? on the back, while the "wrap bar" of that legth maybe fine on a buggy of less weight on a truck do you think that you may have any truble with it "unloading" on a hard stop? I mean that a buggy is not drivn at speed on the street and there for it's not of consern. butt in your truck with a lite load in the back as a dog runnes out in front of you at say 45?  :dunno:

you should put some straps  to shorten the travel of that suspencion.

Just to use on streets

I am shure you can think of a way to mix it so you can remove it when you get to the trail.   :driving:

I would make some straps for it on the road.  But can it be any worse then my double shackle right now?  The chevy shackle doesn't even open up when i brake hard and i have tested it out.     Here are the pics of my crossmember today.  I finished welding the end caps on with a friends mig and grinded them flush.  I only tacked the spring mounts on right now becasue i will arc weld them on probly tomarrow if i can get my friends uncles arc welder.  All welds on it so far are mine.  I don't know about the arc welder since i am ok at it, my friend it ok at it also so i don't know who will weld it.

It was a Miller 125 i believe and it was turned up almost full.  They are pretty strong.  I didn't measure the center welds but it shouldn't hurt anything.  they won't be seen unless you are looking up from the axle.

hey, heres a thought .  how about useing a pair of hanger-like brakits on the frame just short of the povit point of the wrap bar and the springs. on the road you'd just run a pin thogh the holes and when you get to the trail just pull the pin. (pin like you'd use on a three point trator hitch)

thanks   sould note that it would be kinda noisy. mite cut down the noise if you would  be putting some rubber on the frame just above the end of the wrap bar, sould do that no matter how you limit the travel for on the road.  :beerchug:

I will not put the bar on the rear suspension for a while.  The front i will put on after i get my highsteer and steering box, so maybe 2 weeks for that.
