Seafoam in a 22re
« on: Jan 02, 2008, 02:37:14 AM »
Alright, I figured I would try out this seafoam stuff for the first time in my 22re. I plan to do it like the way this guy did. http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534376 I was just wondering if there were any pointers, or anything I should be aware of before I do this. Where should I suck it in when it comes to that point? The brake booster? Or PCV? Can I damage anything? Should I run normal low grade gas when I do it? Thanks for any replies, I searched and got a lot of info, just not exactly what I was looking for.

brake booster, also send some down the throttle body

i dont quite get the pcv as that will dump it into the crankcase and that wouldn't be good....

you need to suck it in thru the intake,  as close  to the throttle body as possible

then  pour  some (maybe half)  in the gas tank,  so it will go thru the injectors

brake booster thing  is  ok  for a  camaro  but  not  a 22RE

and remember  a camaro gas tank is  probably  a good bit bigger than yours

and a camaro uses  91 grade,   your 22re  runs on 87 or 89,   so NO  you dont need  to use 91 grade gas

Being only a 4 banger you'd be lucky if it could stay running with that big of a vac leak.  Then try pouring something in it that will make it misfire at the same time. Good luck with that.  :crossed:

because  you'll only be cleaning  the  inside of the head  ,  and the bottom of the intake,  and  the BIG vacuum leak  will likely  kill it

puting it thru a vacuum port near the  throttle body willclean the entire intake  and plenum,  along with the head

All the vacuum lines near the throttle body are real small. Do I just rig up a funnel to one and pour? If I do it this way, I wont have to use the deep creep stuff. I pour half near throttle body, half in gas tank, and half in oil like 100 miles before I change it, correct? I really don't want to do something bad to the little engine, bit it has a few problems that I hope this will fix.

Pour 1/2 the bottle in your tank, then find the most forward vacuum port on the throttle body & remove the hose. Get a long enough vacuum hose the same size & connect it to the throttle body & drop the other end into the bottle & start the engine, it should suck in the Seafoam  :twocents:

Its ok, at least you are not talking about a totally different subject. It is a decarbonizer, among other things. It cleans out your engine, and if I remember right, it is 100% petroleum product. You can get it at any autoparts store like NAPA and checker and autozone, like jimbo said.
