22R Head, Valve Noise question.
« on: Dec 12, 2007, 08:47:12 AM »
Hey guys, I have an '85 22R in my pick-up. The problem is there is a lot of noice coming from the cylinder head. I've checked the valves, and several of them are under factory clearance numbers so the gaps are closer then what they should be, is this going to cause eccessive valve noise? If it isn't the adjustment, what would cause the noise and what should I check and look for?

I would love to figure this out so I can drive the truck again. It's just I don't know where to go from here.

Thanks in advance,

D.

Set them to the factory numbers.   if they are too tight this could cause problems.

try to describe the noise. i've had noise for a long time after having gotten the head rebuilt and it's been fine for 11,000 miles. where in the head is it coming from. it could be the timing chain slapping against the timing cover or guides.
lets not and say we did.

Could be the adjusting screws on the rocker arms have a groove worn in them. You will never get a true valve lash setting if the do.
