Wheelbase?????

What would everyone say the best wheelbase would be?  Regular cab wheelbase or extra cab wheel base?  I have an extra cab and i think the wheel base it too long.  I think it is 113 inches or so.  Would it be hard to shorten it?  If i did shorten it i would build a flatbed so i wouldn't have to worry about the bed.  I think i would shorten it like 8 to 10 inches.  I would have to move the gas tank i know that.  Cuting off and mounting new hangers won't be hard.  Mounting new shock mounts won't be hard.  Can i get some opinions?

i think a good wheel base is around 100 in i think oh and i like the flat bed design you drew up

i think my longbed's wheelbase is around 110"

seems fine, i'd probably rather have a short bed but it would be great if i ever went to dual cases

for what i do mostly i like my longer wheel base (mud, hill climbs)

Each has thier advantages and dis-advantages depending on the terrain or obstacle. I like my longbed with a 17" bob, longbed wheelbase with a shortbed body!

Its all about the trails that you run.  If your usual trails have a lot of tight trees you are better off with a shorter wheelbase.  If it doesnt have too many tight switchbacks or trees then you might as well go a little bit longer so you have an added advantage in hill climbs.  My 90 has aabout 123.5 in. wheelbase right now but I have options built in to go longer by 4 inches or shorter by 1 1/2.

Most of the trails i run have tight turns.  I run mostly the rubicon, fordyce and some others.

I personally like a 105-120" WB. But then, to each their own. Some really like an 80" WB.

If I ever build myself a rig, it will be a short bed, and I will move the front forward and the back rearward. Kind'of an inbetween. A Middlebed

I like my loooong wheelbase for what I do around here but Ill guarant its gonna suck for the mountain trails Ill run after Im done with it.  Ive been thinking on the rear steering thing, Ill bet I can do it for under $500 in junkyard parts using a yota 3rd and dana steering outers.

Well to sum it up, I think what matters is what your going to do.  sand, mud, fast on drit a longer W.B. is batter.
  Rock crawling shorter is better, the real ? is how short? I think that KYOTA'S W.B. is aboout right for hard trails butt that's just my  $.02

Someone pushed Mikeys buttons    Well I'm running my stock wheel base on my 84 runner and I have noticed that I have very little problems with it compared to jeeps who have gone before me and after me on the trail. I sem to make it easier, but I'm also Locked all around and got my cralwer. And all my testing has been on the Con, I haven't done any wheeling anywhere else. But I think anywhere between 100" to 110" is pretty good for me

lol.  Brainless got TOLD!!!!!  Well, i will be on mostly rocks.  I don't go mudding very much because i hate mud (bad experiance).  I think a 100-110'' wheelbase is good also.  I was thinking about shortening mine about 8'' so it would bring it to about 105-108''       (front suspension will be done soon).  It is about 113-114'' right now.

It also depends on how much lift you have and if you have dual cases or not.  Because a second case adds to your driveline angle, and so does a taller lift, so if you shorten up your wheelbase then that will be even more of an angle.  I think with dual cases and a lift that clears 35's, a longbed wheelbase is perfect (Kyotas truck).  I plan to build another truck when I'm done with my 81, and I want it to be a longbed.
