you sould do a serach on the subjeat.  I think it will but you'll have to drill and tap two holes. :psss:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

to mate '87 efi guts to an '84, you need to snag the lower intake plenum from an '83-84 celica with EFI.  that'll let you bolt the upper plenum from the '87 onto your '84 head, and you might have to tap a few new stud holes, but the bosses are there already so it should be easy :beerchug:

The 87 22r efi intake will bolt right up to your 84 head
83 to 95 22r heads are double drilled for carb or the efi intake mainafold.

81 22r heads only had the carb pattern.
82 22r heads had the carb pattern but the head had the added ears cast into the side of the head but were never drilled and tapped for the efi pattern.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but as long as the head is double drilled [83 and newer], it is a bolt on job.
The biggest problem is mounting the knock sensor. I tig weld a 12x1.25 nut on the head of the motor mount bracket bolt, and attach the sensor to it.

Remember to also change the cam, there is a differance between the carb and efi bump sticks.

there is a kit available to mount the knock sensor on 84 and earlier  engines -(marlin call dennis and he will let you know about it if you want to stock it).

You probably know this but you would do well to use the 87's wiring harness and you will need the fuel tank with the fuel pump. I also used the 87 gauge cluster.

newsflash guys the 89 -95 efi stuff is much better than the 87 stuff -technology is a good thing the truck will make noticable horsepower gains  and fuel milage gains if you use the later model stuff -there are a couple of wiring mods to the check engine lite circuit for the later stuff to work with an earlier dash but its well worth the time it take to do the conversion -as i with any conversion patients is a must and a good set of wiring diagrams and the know how to use them is a must.

I have a complete 86 EFI set-up to go onto an 84 22R. I didn't get the guage cluster and the harness is cut @ the cluster plug. Still has the connecter tho.

I want to do a "piggy-back" harness. Do I just use the wires coming out of the computer? I have searched around and only find the Celica harness swap or talk of the 5-7 wire piggy-back but no real info.

I have a 84 FSM and a 85 FSM. Hopefully the coler codes aren't that different.

Thats a great offer. Since I hi-jack this thread, I'll give jstarnes first crack at the guages. If he doesn't need it , I could use it. And the schematics would be a blessing. When you get a chance, sendend to: taterpunk@yahoo.com    Thanks.

I thought for some reason somthing about the early 84 engines and older 22r's having a dome piston instead of a flat top piston?  Isn't this a factor with the head?

You see i have the same dilema, I have an early 22r and it won't pass smog cuz of high HC's and my air injection is off and blah blah blah.  So I have a friend that has an 85 EFI and it has a rod knock but will sell me the harness and computer and tank and engine for 200 bucks, that is why I ask.
