I want to swap my automatic front hubs (On a '87 4runner SR5) for a set of toyota manual hubs I picked up off a parts 4runner. My problem is that the manual hubs don't seem to fit on the hub flange...The hubs don't seat when I snug down the 6 nuts. :smack: Do I need to change other parts in addition to just the hubs?

Ill bet its the lock ring that keeps the wheel beaing nut from coming loose. Sounds like youll need a set of standard hub nuts.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Thanks WT...So, I guess I'll need to take apart the axle hub/disk brake assembly and replace the adjusting nut, lock washer and lock nut with the manual hub version of these parts?

yup the auto hubs have a different style of nut & keeper correct?  I have the same style as autos on my warn hubs on one of my trucks.  I think that you could use the same setup if you machined off the inner lip of the ring.

warn also makes a conversion kit that runs for like $75-100. www.4wheelparts.com carries it

Stick with the Aisin hubs. I tried the Warns, let's just say I sold them after I warrantied them both for the second time.

I havent broken my Warns yet either but From what I hear they have a tendancy to loosen up and break the studs that hold them on.  Its not that the hubs are weaker or anything its a design flaw on the warns.  They didnt incorperate the origional cone washer setup in the design of the hub body.  That in/of itself is causing the failures.

This happened the first time until I figured that out (Locktite is your friend).  The other 2 I broke during Team Trophy Challenge. Wasted the internals on both. This was when the truck was still IFS. One broke while coming down a waterfall with all of the truck weight on the front & the second broke climbing a large rock & the Lockright racheting under full power in low low (CV failure more than likely caused this one). I have heard the solid axle units have less problems. Warn is awesome as far as customer service goes.

That said, I have NEVER had one problem with the nearly 20 year old Aisin hubs.
