5.29s or the duel cases

gears
cases
other...

Doof

for x-mas im gettin a chunk of change from both parents for gears, but now i think about it i would rather get the cases and wheel with my 4.10s since i know a buddy that does that and does just fine. the additional case would be 4.7 so i would have a duel ultimate..enough yakin and more voting

edit: this is also my DD and trail rig

what you vote for any why

lilbuddy

cases...

4.10s are fine, 5.29s are only good for driving IMO and look at me, dual stocks and I do fine. Dual ultimates would be badass-er then just dual stockers.

Cases for sure
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

What are your driving habits going to be with this truck? Daily driver, drive to the trail or trailer it to the trail. Also, do you live in an area that has alot of hills if you drive it daily? Freeway diving or not?

Daily driver? Gears.

Not so daily driver? Cases.

Doof

DD and hills are so so, but i do just fine with the slopes in 3rd or 4th, i never use 5th i actually slow down when i hit the gas in 5th

im leaning towards cases but just want others opinion first

KDXSR5

If you are ok with super sluggish street driving, then go for cases. If you don't like it the way it is and want more pep, go gears.

i dont mind the slugish to much. ive gotten good at taking 20% of my speed and doing the math to find out how fast im going

Tallchevy

I drive my 4Runner everyday. When I put the 35's on I didn't like that I couldn't use 5th & when I got to a hill I had to down shift to 3rd & 2nd if a rat farted & I was down wind  :shake: Like KDXSR5 put it, if you like sluggish street driving then do the cases. But if your getting enough to do the dual case, 4.7 gears, front & rear drivelines & transfer case mount then do that cause thats more expensive to do. It's easy to save a small amount of money than it is to save a large amount

I voted for duals  :twocents:

I voted for cases cause you will have gain a wider set of gear ratios than swapin axle gears and if your at 4.10 in the axle thats not too bad anyways..
Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!

i was looking at the ultimate cases last night and im look at around 1425

i think ill save up and pay off my tires first and then embark on another upgrade. so i still have debate time between cases and gears

am i a  21 spline output or 30?

86 runner, 22r3, wb56 B,  and i dont know what model t-case

79coyotefrg

:haha:  go with a 2.28  and a 4.7   then  just run  the front case  in lo  around town   5th  at  35mph  is cool  :disturbed:

tranny output is a21 spline,

your tcase has  these  shift rails,

so  i would put it in the front  so you dont have to worry about  cutting the shift rails,  then get a 79-83  top shift  for the rear

opinions are great and they're all based on facts.  Let's see if some of this will help you decide.

Pros to gears:  1)  better street power and added off road power

                       2)  Less stress on your clutch and drivetrain

                       3)  should see an improvement in fuel mileage, if you care about that  :gap:

                       4)  Racing on the street is a little funner... :shhh:

                       5)  the benefits of gears will be used every time you drive your rig.

cons to gears:  1)  more torsional stress on axle shafts but you're headed there anyway so this won't
                            matter!

                        2)  no more excuses as to why you can't keep up or make it over that rock....(this can be a pro as
                             well  :headscratch:)

                        3)  still pricey and somewhat involved for install but not as much as duals (pro or con?)

pros to duals:   1)  way cooler to have than just gears.  :yesnod:

                        2)  you can say you have a MC adapter in it now. how cool is that?!  :woohoo:

                        3)  needless to say, the offroad advantages you'll gain. (multi gear slections as stated by someone
                             here and other advantages)

                        4)  seeing all those shifters with Marlin knobs... :drooling:

cons to duals:   1)  pricey for the install (but worth it!)

                        2)  more involved to the install than just the adaptor (drivelines, crossmember, floor mods.... :blah:) But
                             still worth it!

                        3)  the benefits to duals are only usable when you do go wheeling. Not an everyday satisfaction for that
                             matter...

                        4)  This may be arguable or even negligible but nonetheless a fact and probably the only real downside
if at all.  The added gears and fluid do cause additional parasitic load to the engine and will rob a
little more power. how much?  :dunno: but considering this might be a good reason to do gears
                             first.  That's your choice.... :thud:

Now that this is all as clear as mud  :rofl2: let us know what you think.  :beerchug:

nice break down... if i save up for cases i will prob order it or call CJ and place the order and just drive down to pick them up and pay in cash. then after that it would only be a matter or one paycheck and i could have gears
