I bought a dualalti case from marlin.  I ordered it for a 85 22r. Will it work with a newer 22re motor and trans? I don't have the motor or tranny yet. What are my options?

A 1985 22R (carburated) engine uses a G54 transmission which uses a forward-shift style t/case. Since you ordered the unit for this transmission, it will be built as a forward-shifting style.

As for the newer 22R-E motor, regardless of what year it is, it's transmission will not be compatible with the Marlin Crawler Crawl Box built for your 1985 setup.

Please see our Transfer case Bible for more information on different Transfer case shift types (forward [short/long], top):
The Gear Drive Transfer Case Bible

Your 1985 truck uses a Type 2-B transfer case.
A 1985-1988 22R-E uses a Type 3 transfer case.
A 1989-1995 22R-E uses a Type 6 transfer case.

The problem is that the shift rails are not compatible and will need to be changed when you move the Crawl Box to your 22R-E setup.

Can I convert a 85 carb motor EFI. I have a small junkyard of mostly toy parts bettween friends, and 2 rebuilt carberated 22r's. I would like to use one of them, they're both strong motors. Also, is there a certian trans that will bolt to a new block and the case I have. Or is there adapter plates that will work.

Ok, to answer your question most accurately, could you please explain precisely what you are looking to do.

All 22R/-E/-TE blocks will allow all appropriate L-/G-/W-/R-series transmissions to be bolted up.

In general, any Top Shift Style Gear Drive t/case will bolt up behind ANY 1979-95 4cyl or Turbo 5-spd transmission (excluding the G58) with out any special adapters, assuming the spline counts are matched.

If you could figure out what transmission you want to use in your truck, then we can talk about what changes may or may not be required to your Crawl Box for it to become compatible with that transmission.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, thank u for your advice. I'm underway converting my 85 set up to EFI. Painless aftermarket wire harness made it eazy. Toyota's r the :pokinit:!!! So is Painless wire harnesses kits!!!

BigMike

Painless is nice but $$$$$$$$$$$$ but it can save a lot of time too

If I were you I would just keep your 1985 G54 transmission in there with your dualcase transfer case setup already installed. You won't need to worry about any shifter modifications or worry about shifter placement in your cab.
