32/36 carb install questions
« on: Nov 20, 2007, 01:09:14 PM »
I have just installed my weber 32/36 and it starts fine but after about a minute of running it dies and it takes awhile to get it started again.  I disconnected the fuel line and it is getting fuel.  And it is getting spark.  I disconnected all the smog stuff and capped all the lines.  The only line that is hooked up is the vacuum advance.   :inthedark:I am definitely in the dark and need help.  Thanks

It is not a california weber on the instructions it said to turn the mixture screw till it stops and then count the turns out till it stops again the go in the middle.  My truck is a 79 20r and it was a california truck with all the smog stuff taken off.

no,  screw it in all the way  then back it out  1 maybe 2 full turns,  then  see how it does,  the idea is to have it IN  as far as it can go and still run

2x above...  i think mine is approx 1 turn out from all the way in. dose your carb have an idle solenoid valve on the side? . . do you know what your primary idle jet size is? mine came with a .45 and would not idle or adjust. it has a .65 now and is right on for the motor I'm running now.

I screwed it all the way in and then backed it out 1 turn.  It started and sounded alot better but still died after less then a minute.  It is like it just stop's getting fuel?  I also changed the fuel filter.

ok,  sounds like you electric  fuel pump  is  either clogged  or  going bad,   drain the gas tank  and  lower it down,  pull the  unit  on the top of the tank  that the fuel line  comes out of,  you can get a  replacement  fuel pump from most autoparts stores

I liked my pump on my 80 being above the framerail right by the tank, but after having to change it out on the side of the road in the dark I moved it to the engine bay.  I like it much better there now

:dunno: I think it's like 3-6.  I don't run a regulator and haven't had an issue with them.  I get them off our little 1600cc generators at work which run a single barrel weber.  I've yet to have an issue with pressure or running out of fuel on top, but I do plan on switching over to a holley red and running a regulator.  These little red units are diaphram units and don't last long, but the holley is a rotary vain unit and is rebuildable.

I'm running a frame mount electric pump. 4-6 psi. the old frame mount was running low on psi at high RPM with only 1/4 tank. took the tank apart and found out the old pump was left in, and the relief valve above the stock pump was letting it suck air when the tank was low.

I know things go bad but I just changed the fuel pump about 6 months ago.  It has been sitting outside since then.  Also when you turn your keys to on without cranking it over is your e pump supposed to turn on or is it only on after it is started.

that pump needs to be back by the fuel tank so its pushing fuel not pulling first off thats why your burning up fuel pump i also run a filter between the tank and pump then another one up at the weber... i run my mixture screw @ 1 1/2 turns out from bottomed out...just a few little pointers i have had many many webers now and they are a pain in my ass....good luck man

the only reason i had a fuel pump problem was that the old pump was left in the tank when a frame mount pump was installed years ago. this is mine now, but i like the way Nate has his in the engine compartment. think I'll try that. the weber i'm using was easy to tune.

the pump is designed to push fuel not pull..... therefore the engine compartment idea while it may be easy to service it will wear the pump out in half the time.... i would not suggest that myself but hey its all up to you...that is the same fuel pump i have too and it works great....

theres a vacuum  switch  that requires vacuum,  if i remember right,  to make the fuel pump run  with the key  on the run,  i think

but  yea  sounds like your pump is bad

pump is in the tank
