Topic: Broken R154 Tranny

I recently had my R154 transmission rebuilt with a new 1st gear, hub and thrust washer (slipping out of 1st gear). I reinstalled the transmission in my car and drove it easy for about 500 miles. While accelerating hard in 2nd gear, I heard a squealing noise from the transmission and it now appears I broke it again, since the transmission is slipping out of 1st gear again. The transmission shop that rebuilt the transmission doesn’t know why it broke again so soon. I am using a RPS 3200 lb puck clutch putting out 410 hp and 390 ft-lb of torque at the rear wheels. Can you give me some direction on this problem? Do you rebuild these transmissions? Thanks for any help you can offer.

well, that is some pretty big hp numbers..  Could that have something to do with it? ..  No I don't have any other ideas..

Have you talked to Marlin or Angelo about having them fix it? I did the same thing with my R151F; I smoked the 1st gear thrust washer (with a questionable rebuild by a local). I made 306 rwhp w/ my 3.4 SC'd convesion, so that probably didn't help.

CJ told me they did a bullet-proof (my words, not his) R154 for a desert truck- you might consider them.
