Custom 3rz intake completed
« on: Nov 06, 2007, 07:49:06 AM »
Well I ended up using a 2.75in exhaust tubing with some heat to message the pipe over the 2nd coil pack then a MAF adapter from the local store and a K&N cone filter. It is sick.. Pictures soon.  This is a perfect set up for a swapped 3rz second gen and dual batteries.

So, you routed the intake over to the other side?  Did you eliminate the air chamber like Bigmike?

If you want I can post what it used to look like!  j/k

I would like to see what you done though!!

I do have a before and after but my lady has the camera and has yet to bring it. I should have it to tomorrow. I did eliminate the box but Mikes is different because of the lack of the individual coils. The resonator is ugly.

What did you do with the vacuum line that came out of the air chamber?

It goes into the intake manifold where there was an empty spot on the front. I just pulled the rubber cap and got a fitting to go from a small vac line to a larger one. Works fine.

If it is not to much trouble for you could you please post a pic?

Nice job, looks good. The only problem I see is the air cleaner need to be placed some where or boxed so it is not sucking hot air from the engine compartment.
The cooler the air charge, the better the engine will run.

I was going to try to get cooler air to it but anywhere it would fit was where water was likely to go. The engine bay is pretty open so the air in there is not very hot.  There is a semi heat shield over the header and it helps but yeah it isn't optimal but works well for my app.

I moved where my truck was breathing from (behind the headlight) to the cowl vent. This picture is real old and I have changed it a bit but it is still basically the same. The size pipe I used is 3" not 4 like stated on the picture.

That is a lot of work for an intake. Sweet setup though.  I wouldn't go that crazy for maybe 2hp.  But still one heck of a setup. How did you come up with that elaborate of a setup. I was thinking of either hood vents or a cowl induction like scoop in the inner fender to get some cooler air to it.

I did not do it for the HP; I did it for deep-water crossings. I run Fordyce Creek Trail (Sierra Trek) regularly and it has four water crossings on it. Depending on how much water they are, letting out of the dam it can get headlight deep. I put it on years ago when I had an IFS lift and 33" tires.

Many people were running the tube to the back of the wheel well and leaving it. I did not like that because of the dust and dirt kicked up by the tire so I took it a few steps further.

Jees that much water and I would be worried about other electronics.  Looks like it has served you well though.
