okay, i have a set of 2" lifted downey rears for a 88-95 rear end, but am wondering if they will bolt in the front of my '81.  they are 47" eye to eye, same as the 44044s, but what will i have to do to get them in there?  i need to build a new front shackle hanger anyway, but will i need to move it forward?  any help would be appreciated.

Double check the spring length. 88-95's are 52" long springs, 79-88's are 48" long.

Anyway, they sound like 79-88's to me, so I will go on that assumption. You will need to make sure the front eye bushing is 18mm. Then bolt them in with some longer than stock shackles (4" minimum). THen bolt up the axle. You may need to move the IFS steering box forward (you have highsteer right) to prevent contact between the tie rod and the drag link. Then head out to the driveline shop and get a new driveline made because your old one is too short, and wont have enough travel for these springs. Other than brake lines, bumpstop mounts, and new shocks/shock mounts your all set.

Remember, the springs will move the axle 2" forward. And those downey springs are tall. If I had them on my truck, with my confer shackles, I would assume it would give my suspension about 9" taller than stock.

Thats what I used..works killer..I had to mix in some stock rears to stiffen it up..I run all the downey and 3 stockers..I think 6 total..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!
