Need info re: Expantion valve 96 4Runner

Afraid I am gonna have to change the X valve on my 96 4Runner, where can i find some info regarding  tips to make this the smallest hassle as possible.
I am guessing the X valve is up behind the passenger airbag or something.

If you don't even know where it is, what makes you think you need to replace it?  How will you evac and recharge the system?
