SoCal Fires
« on: Oct 23, 2007, 04:41:46 PM »
I haven't been on the forum in a while, and after seeing all of the fires here in Cali, I figured there would be a huge Fire thread here, but I didn't find one?

So I am just wondering how everyone in SoCal are doing? :crossed:

My sister and brother in-law may have lost their house in Running Springs, CA. They were evacuated on Sunday and have not been back since. The have really good Fire insurance, but with the strong winds right now, watching the videos on CNN and Fox News, it looks crazy!

Over 500,000 people have been evacuated, and they are comparing this to Hurricane Katrina.

 :scared: :shudder: :shudder:

I hope everyone down there is safe. We have many customers in SoCal. If you are willing to help out someone who lost their property there, post up and get some support going on!

:crossed: Really sad..... How weak humans are to mother nature. There are 101 things that could occur right now that we would have absolutely ZERO power over. Really scary.

Hope everyone is safe.. :crossed: :crossed:

God bless,
BigMike

Regarding my sister's house, according to http://old.rimoftheworld.net/incidents/3623, the fire has already hit their street corner!

They were able to get their two dogs and 1 cat out, my sister got her wedding dress and their laptop, my brother-in-law was able to get some of his climbing gear and also their 1985 Toyota 4WD, but that's it...

This just in for the Arrow Head - Big Bear area:

More than 100 homes have burned and 400 continue to be threatened. Mandatory evacuations are in place for Green Valley Lake, Arrow Bear, and Running Springs. All roads into the mountain communities are closed. 17 engines and five water tenders are currently assigned to this fire. Slide Fire Information Line (909) 383-5688

Don't watch the news that much, but heard there was a fire in Santa Clartia (SP?) Thats by Northridge. I can see the fires up in Arrowhead for my house in Apple Valley.

Northridge is just windy. The fires up there are directly north of me. Other than that, the smoke is nowhere near me.
I was on the 15 yesterday and was stuck in traffic for 6 hours due to the fires.

took my wife 6 hours to get up here from Cucamonga yesterday cause of the 15 being closed. She had to go around the back side of Big Bear from Redlands. But first had to sit on the 15 for 2 hours or so

same with me. I was at BK Fabworks and had to go to Demello's shop afterwards and ended up being stuck on the 15 where I couldn't get off and take an alternate route.

Hey Mike and everyone.

Let me see If I can help out with news from the area. I live in Redlands and work in SB (thick smoke here for the past 2 days)and have tried to follow the fires locally.

The reports I am hearing are a lot more dire. Friends in Arrowhead, Crestline, Running Springs and Big Bear all say this one is really bad. We lost a lot of homes here in the 03 "Old Fire" but the winds now are more intense. The last report from KNX had the structures lost in the mountain communities at more than 250.  :sad2: I know of four families that have lost their homes in Arrowhead and Running Springs. :sad2:

I read that Dave Cole and family are staying with Zukizzy (aka Wayne) from the board. "Earl Kahn" (aka Donald) just moved out of his house in Running Springs so his family is safe. :)

San Diego County is also really bad. Friends in Rancho Bernardo lost their house, their rental house and the kids private school burned.

Earthquakes are not the danger in SoCal that people hear of. Fires cause a lot more damage.

The one report that I have heard that really bothered me was from some grandstanding assemblyman from Orange County complaining about the air support. He went on and on about how Orange County needed more tankers and helicopters and how he had reports that aircraft were sitting on the ground. :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:
One of the CDF air bases is here in SB. I can tell you Mr. Assemblyman, the CDF base doesn't have anything on the ground. And unlike the OC, we are loosing houses, not just brush near the 241 tollroad.

part of it is that although the wind may not be gusting to 80 mph like earlier but it is still blowing hard enough that if they release the chemical fire retardant the wind catches it and blows it away where it does no good. Ass hat politicians should learn before they speak...or just not speak and make every ones job easier!

When stuff like this happens, especially in Cali.  I feel like helping out locally.  Anyone got any ideas on how we can help out if we aren't in so-cal?  There is a girl in a sorority that my fraternity visited last night and she got a phone call while i was there that her house was about to be burnt to the ground in 10min.  That brought this thing kind of close to home.  I want to do something for her but am drawing a blank.  Everyone says "Is there anything I can do for you?" But the answer is always the same.  No but thanks anyways.  Im frustrated at the situation.  I wanna help but feel like i can't.  Any ideas throw them out there.
