i heard they are :pokinit: when it comes to hard wheelin...but for the old cottontop wheeler looking for some mud puddles they are just fine... i wouldnt run them though

skipnrocks

Cool time for links!!!!!!!!!!!   LOL

How come you two are so against them? they seem effective?

I am because of their un-predictability.  Sure they work for flex but for road manners I wouldn't want them.  When you get into evasive driving they can come unloaded.

gotrocks

Oh yeah and in regards to links. Not now maybe someday.  The goal is to make a good handling, street driven wheeler.

skipnrocks

Dude you can link a streeter!  All the sa trucks today are linked!

Oh I know.  I just don't have the funds or time to link it right now.  I could throw links under it but I need a little bit of time to get it dialed in.

I like it!  Sits a bit tall for my tastes, but otherwise it's sweet!
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

 All nice trucks!  Good Luck with the business  :crossed:

Did you put up a thread for that Jeepster?

gotrocks

No but I can if you want me too.  I don't have the pictures of the suspension build but I can get the guy to post them probably.  I just did the cage work and aluminum floor

It looks taller than it really is.  My buddy said that he thought it was really tall until he saw it in person.  I do plan on lowering it down as much as I can but I do want it to have enough room to clear my 39" krawlers for the rocks.

gotrocks

Its been a while since I posted some updates.

I don't have any pictures of this at the moment but for the transfer case crossmember but I modified a marlin style 83 cross member and mounted it up under the taco.  It mounts up higher than the factory cross member did and it protects much better than the front range type cross member that most guys seem so use for the Tacoma's.  I'll get a picture of it sometime soon.

But for now here's a few pictures of what I've done.

I didn't get the time to plate the frame so I ended up welding up a 2x2 piece of tube right in front of the shackle mount

Also I had to move the rear spring mounts forward 2" because the center pin on the marlin springs is 2" further back than the tacoma stock spring pack.

Once I got the bed back on I took the truck down to the muffler shop.  I ended up putting a magnaflow muffler on it with a 2.5" exhuast.  It sounds really nice and doesn't have that raspy sound that a lot of toyota normally have.

gotrocks

Heres a cool picture on the way to the muffler shop

So after all the hard work I had to try out the rig after all the hard work.

I have to say I'm not disappointed at all in how it performed.  Just a little bit of rubbing but nothing severe.  All i need to do now it just build some bumpers and sliders.

Only really got stuck a couple of times.  Instead of digging a bunch just got a pull from my buddy.

gotrocks

Tomorrow we're going up again and hopefully I can get the rear welded (only a temp. fix until I can afford an ARB) and possibly my winch plate welded up.  I'll post more pictures hopefully tomorrow night.

lilbuddy

Truck looks sick... Good job.

Youre like me and need  a front bumper now
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

Thanks.  The wood is a pile of slash from logging.  I'd have to say that picture is my favorite picture too.

Yeah I'm going to weld up the tg winch mount today and hopefully get the tube bent up to finish it sometime this month.  I have neglected my homework and what not way to much trying to get this thing done and so I will only be doing little jobs here and there to finish everything up now that its driveable.

btw LB does your truck have much bump steer with your caster angle.  I hate having the shackle mount under the axle but there is nothing that I can do about that.  I hope I reduce the darting that it has.  Its not really scary but enough that I wouldn't want my wife driving it yet.  I have some caster shims but when I put them in my leaf springs touched the tierod.
