As for the flywheel, I guess I'm old-school and would like to get a *heavier* one if I could. While lighter does help with revving the thing, heavier makes it really hard to stall out when you're in first.   The stock one IIRC is on the heavy side as it is.  Toyota knew what they were doing when they designed these first and second gens.(off-road use was a given, on-road was a distant second, much like the Wrangler still is designed)

Totally agree. The flywheel is what helps keep the motor spinning when your lugging in low gear, and if you lighten it, it wont have the centrifugal force to help keep it going. I have actually thought about getting a heavier flywheel so that I can idle over objects easier. I also agree that if you remove too much it increases your chances of warpage, and early replacement.

I suppose it's really about what your using the vehicle for. I can see the utility if your just on the road, and looking for speed, but off-raod, I'd think your doing yourself a disservice.

Im in need for a new clutch and ive heard from many people, many knowledgable people that ceramic isnt the way to go. im in need of a clutch and ima go with the heavy duty non ceramic clutch. Also if your flywheel doesnt look that bad hit it with a buffing wheel. thats only if your on a tight budget, but why not go wth the right way and and have it machined.

most  machine shops  will surface a flywheel  for $25   get r done right

I'd personally not even mess with a buffing wheel on the flywheel. I would spent the $25 or however much it will be to get it done right the first time!

I am running a Luk Clutch in my '82 22R and I love it.  Nice pedal pressure and a comfort to drive when you get stuck in traffic.  Doesn't tire your leg at all.

not sure if i posted in this thread yet or not, but my marlin 1600 is daily driven and it is the best clutch i have ever used. better than oe and the centerforce 2 i used to have

i just got rid of my 1600 ceramic clutch and i tore that thing up!!! i'm getting the 1600 non ceramic when i rebuild my tranny.... sounds good!!

i abused the out of it for 85,000 miles and it held up way better than a stocker but it didnt exactly look too perdy!! i'm gonna try the semi metallic out and see how they hold up!! i still love that positive snap that ceramic had, every person that ever drove it killed it at least twice in a row!!

The non ceramic 1200# is awesome and has a very good feeling when it engages.  I wish I had gotten the 1600# now!  I definitely didn't want the ceramic clutch, I've driven them in semis before and I knew that I definitely didn't want to be rpm shifting my truck!

I honestly don't see what everybody has against the ceramic... It wasn't that much different than the stocker. except now I can actually spin my tires... and not the clutch.
