I'm looking to get a new Throttle Position sensor (TPS) for my 85 EFI pickup. I wonder where does everyone here buy this item beside at dealership. Last time the guy at Napa told me that it would cost me $317 for the TPS.  :shocking:  :yikes:  Does anyone here know where else I can get one (TPS) for less ?

Thanks !

I might have a used one.  Not sure of the exact year, but it is early EFI.

That guy is an idiot. I got mine for 89 dollars.

Through Toyota i think it was only 150 or so.

Buy it from the dealer, and make sure you know how to set it up correctly or you will be wasting your time.

FOUR of them.  :o What problem are you having with them? Does your truck drop to base timing when you jump the t & e connectors?

I dont know this one has lasted a while. I dont know what they are doing but when adjusting it the ohms were way off at idle and all that crap. Its like they shorted out somehow. I dont know nor do i care. Actually My OEM toyta went out so im on my 5th one in 1 year. Weak.. Kinda annoying to change too.

I have no idea what your mechanical inclination is, and I dont want to sound like an ass, But maybe you should pay someone to set it up and see what happens. It seems like we do one on a 22r about every 2 weeks. We have never had a bad one out of the box, and we have never had one come back either. And we ONLY use new ones from toyota.  :twocents:

Nah the one that first came out of the runner when i bought it was already bad (stock), the first second and third one was set up by a shop in chico (my buddys dad owns it so i was helping) and the 4th one i set up myself. The one i set up myself is better because I actually used feeler gauges so I actually think I know what im doing. Thanks though

Saweet.  We have gotten trucks in here with LOOSE TPS's that the customer tried to just replace and turn it until the motor sounded good.  :talkingn: I didnt mean to imply that you did not know how to set up a TPS correctly, just that most people dont.

Thanks everyone for your inputs. Recently I called up the dealer part department to get a price on the OEM
TPS. I was told that it would cost $175. Is this sound right ? From the look of it, the TPS for my 85 truck is more expensive than it is for the newer truck. Anyhoo, I would definitely go with the OEM just to make life a little less complicated.
