it started earlier this week, then went from bad to worse, i had to slow to 60mph to keep the temp gauge below  the red
full of coolant and oil,
i pulled the valve cover and saw the timing chain was pretty loose,  can a stretched chain cause that kind of overheating problem??
i pulled the timing cover last night to replace the chain,  any helpful thoughts????

yep,  that chains in bad shape,  almost went thru the chain guide on the right,  the 1/4 moon shaped one looks good and the tensioner looks good,  but the head of the straight ones bolt is GONE

Replace the lower radiator hose. The water pump can be trying to suk it closed. This is common once they get old and soft.

and better change out that head gasket you puched out the holes on :.order: and put in a bigger rad. and put the timeing to 5degs. and get two eletic fans and put on a hood scoop to help the flow of air over the eng. and never take the truck out of the water and only drive in winter and
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

yea i think so,  i kept looking at all the things everybody said ,  but what did the job was the new timing chain

i was thinking maybe the crappy gas was part of the problem

KYOTA

I just drove mine from Portland to Fordyce and back and it was doing something similar. It would run at the normal temp then start climbing. I'd stop for gas and let it sit for only 5 mins. and it would be in the normal range again. Sometimes it would start getting hot then the gauge would just drop right back into the normal range. I flushed coolant cuz it was knarly lookin :reg:  but it was still doing it, looked like previous owner had used stop leak and I was thinking thermostat maybe sticking. And it wasnt getting hot as soon as I started driving, it would be like an hour later.
