A pickup called Texas
« on: Oct 04, 2007, 01:02:46 AM »
Hello everybody and welcome to my tread!

First we have to check out why he is called Texas. It`s simple, once he "lived" there :D

I bought him last year and started the buildup at march this year.

He looked nearly stock. Only an bodylift was in and old 31x10.5r15s on it.

But there was an 1KZT-engine inside. The wiring was "creative" but the engine was running. The automatic transmission haven`t worked. You had to shift manually :(

First I cleaned the frame and painted it.

Then we put in an manually shifted 5-speed gearbox.

refitting the brakes

building a snorkel

new seats out of an 4runner

putting in ome leaf springs and dampers

Now it was time for the first ride

he`s alive :D

a bit of fender trimming

new FJ70 radiator with customized mountings

ready for official technical inspection

passed without problems, also passed smoke

now Texas was ready for the trip to Romania:

the builds after this trip will follow soon, i promise

Cool to see the 1KZt in another truck.

BTW I want an injection pump like yours, no wires or brain and no throttle plate on the intake.

That is the differance between the 1kzt and the 1kzte.

Enjoy,
Mark

Thanks guys!

Im sensing a lone star paint theme in this trucks future

haha, you can have it in any colour! (if its black... )

I like this engine! But to much torque for this IFS-*censored*! This will be one of the next things to get rid of!

@Mark
that could be difficult. Perhaps you could get it in GB or Australia, there were a lot of these engines sold... I wondered why you have so much wires

greetings,
Marc

OK, here`s the next part:

whats the most important thing if you don`t confident your wiring?

right, an fire extinguisher

this is my pickup after the romaniatrip:

and on 55mp/h only 8 liters diesel on 100 kilometers! But on 100mp/h about 15 Liters...  :sneeze:

after the trip ist before the trip so i had some more work to do

rockslider

our technical approval (TÜV) doesn`t allow to weld the slider directly to the frame.

so this is the bolt on solution.

winch

the relais are in the sealed grey box and YES it was late :D

switch plate

plate for instruments (water, oil and voltage)

temperature sensor for water

cb-radio

the last holiday, one week in the Alps in Swiss, Italy and France

and last weekend testing in France with a couple of friends

thats the MAN KAT from a friend :headscratch:

hope tomorrow the french army will fix this...  :cheese:

Thats the actual status of my rig. Next plans are sas, lockers and a second winch on the rear.

For the sas I already don`t know wether go on an 4" or an 5" lift. I want to remove the body lift and run 35s...
Any suggestions?

Marc

France still has an army? :headscratch:

:haha:

Nice looking rig...you guys definitely have some different wheeling over there.

What else do you have planned for it?

I would personally go 4"...but it is all about what size tire you want to put on.  I have 4 on my truck and I can fit a 35x13.50-15 with just a little bit of rubbing at complete flex (I have not trimmed the fenders).  If you are willing to cut the fenders 4" will be enough.

Hi 89Toy,

thanks, I have trimmed my fenders about 3". More isn`t possible without cutting and rebuilding the inner fenders.

And I want to run 35x12.5R15 without bodylift or 37s with two inch of bodylift. Do you think this is possible without rubbing?

Does 4" flex just as well than 5"?

definitly good to go...I have an 89 without ANY trimming and I can fit the tires that I have really well...this is my truck with 35x13.5's http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=33559.0  You can probably get even better flex than what this one is showing if you can manage to fit a 14" shock in the front and back (mine only has 12" shocks).

As for flex I am not sure...I have actually read a few things that say the 4" will flex better than the 5.  Also, if you check out the link to my truck, if you have already trimmed your fenders 3" then you might be able to fit a 37 without a body lift...

Hello again,

I want to introduce you to one of my best friends and his rig.

Here are some pics of his pickup on a vacation trip on iceland:

And here side by side with mine:

He wants to make a solid axle swap but he is concerned about the springs. He loads up to 1to.
He wants to go on a 4" lift kit. How much load can he put on the rear without sagging too much?
Is it better to go on an 5" spring on the rear?

He thinks about doing the sas with coilovers in the front. I think its too difficult with all the linkage, isn`t it?

Sorry for my questions, that is all unknown territory for me ;)

4" should be enough to clear 35's.. many people clear 37"s on it.

SAS...  love the diesel.

Hi,

could you please measure the distance between your shock mount and your frame?

I want to find out whether the 14" shocks will fit without cutting the inner fender or not.

When your front leaf spring ist compressed what limits your travel, your bump stops or your shocks?

Thanks,
Marc
