i would just get a marlin rear bumper, but i plan to make a tube/flat/truggy sorta bed or bob and dovetail it.

so i am looking for something more temporary and more simple

its hard to tell from the pic if that is a solid plate bumper...if so just use one of these

the safest idea would be what duffil recommended and is how I have mine done for now..reciever thru bumper

i really like that rear bumper... just wondering how it the corners are fabbed and if there are gussets? if you weld the hitch flush in like that the weld penetration is minimized i would bevel the opening with a dremel or something. i am paranoid of tow parts breaking loose and going thru someones windshield. kinda scary

i planned on doing one like dtb's bumper, but mounting the shaft of the tow hitch through the factory crossmember that is back there also, and then gusseting

No, don't weld a hook to the frame, use bolts, and bolt one on each frame rail.  This will give you a tow points from the rear, which will allow you more recovery options.  If you want to be able to access the hooks a little easier, grab some 1.5" .125 wall square tube long enough to go from the frame through the the lower body panel.  Bolt the tube to the frame and bolt the tow hooks to the tube, or you could use d-rings instead.  It would look similar to what rockcrawlintoy has, just w/o the rest of the bumper.

you can always loop the tow strap around your shackle???

idk how bad of an idea it is but i've done it a few times before i had a bumper.

beats being stuck.

For awhile before i made a rear bumper i took a old u-bolt cut it down welded a peice of it accross it to make it into a d-ring then take a piece of tube( I had plenty of 1.75 laying around cut it in half welded it with the d-ring in it under the frame behind the shackle.

Was that purchased new that way, or did someone weld a drop hitch receiver to a Smitty tube?
