Stock T-Case finaly dead
« on: May 09, 2004, 10:45:12 PM »
After about 250k miles my stock T case has finaly broke. Well sort of. The frontdriveline suddenly became engaged when Iwas driving on the highway. Could be because I never changed the fluid after the fordyce trip, and it sat for over a year rusting.

I have a spare T case, but I am still runnin adapter #243. Should I do anything to it while I got it apart? What about a rebuild kit for a crwal box, ordo I need to buy the whole case kit?
And what shift rail do I cut, in the box, or the tcase? I will figure that one out once I take it apart.

Check for coupler wear. Check the inside splines, see if they are worn or streched. We have good used parts so if you only need to change a few items. Cut the driver side, LNH shift rail. Its the one that has a flat top about .5" long.
Taking back America, one part at a time! :madeinusa:

I just got my Tcase out. That was a PITA to get around the exhaust from the 7M. I think it will go in easier once I take the companion flange off. I need to swap to my cross drilled anyway.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will take the crawl box out now, and put it back together tomorrow sometime, unless I need parts.

Oh Yea. I was just planning on using Black RTV instead of a gasket. Anyone usedthis, or should I go with Grey or Blue? Remeber I am using adapter #285. Thats an AA piece, not something made by the fire breathing guru of metal. (or is it Radiation?)

I got it apart, May as well get a new coupler. I couldn't get a good pic of the coupler, but I got some pics of the Tcase input. I am guessing it may be harder than the coupler?

I got well over 100k miles on the adapter. I drove it everywhere :driving:.

Just to let you know how old this is, Marlin was selling it from Marlin Automotive, Before Marlin Crawler was a buisness.

So i am still very happy with it, since I am not easy on it.

Hey Marlin, i don't realy need to know when I got it. However I know that you may be getting enjoyment out of knowing your stuff is stout. So here is a timeline for you.

You came to GSMTR, I can't remeber your copilot, but he went off to colege, or just finished . But this was the trip where you burned a piston on the way, and found a place to fix it in Tenn. I think it was.. Got got it twards the end of that summer, along with Eric's #242.

The next year you came back to GSMTR, I think Paul was your copilot. This may have been the trip where you dropped off Rainmans truck.

Just some more info. I didn't put the 7M in till 2 years ago. Rod went out after I got back from BHCC 2002. 2003 the truck sat since I had a broken wrist. I just got the new 7M running before Cruise Moab this year. Yes it runs great and stays cool.

Also Eric is still running #242 in his Turbo truck. 2 years ago he swapped in a 4.3 and a 700R4 trans. He did have a company truck, and his wifes 4Runner to use durring the week. But he did drive it to GSMTR every year since he got it. And all the other trail rides

Toyota equipment never stops amazing me, Ive ran my stock t- case in the 84 with basically no oil for 2 months! (long story, involves the front flange falling off with the driveline)  The silly case still shifts smooth and doesnt make any noise.
