If you don't yet have mudflaps on your rig do it now or you will get pulled over! CHP, at least up here in Butte/Tehama/Plumas counties, are watching for it. I got pulled over and he even measured my frame height on the runner. I didn't have mudflaps on but I had the materials in the back of my rig to do it since I was warned already, I didn't get a fix it ticket but if I didn't have the stuff to put it together I would have. The officer told me that all CHP are going to be cracking down on us so beware!

Don't speed either. they didn't get their raises this year due to the budget so they are trying to increase revenue by pulling people over for even 2-5 mph over the limit!!

CA lift laws measure from frame height to ground as follows:

<4500 GVWR=27"
4501-7500 GVWR=30"

Technically speaking, they can ticket you for exceeding the lift law should your truck exceed 27" (for gross vehicle weight under 4500lbs) from ground to frame. Each state is different... http://www.truckworld.com/How-To-Tech/97-lift-laws/lift-laws.html

ya just got to love calif. :screwy:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

RUGER

yep, gotta love calif.

i have flaps on now and they completely cover the bfg a/t's(12.5 wide). but when i run my swampers(15.5 wide) they kinda stick out by alot...and i'm probably going to get screwed when i run them.

i need to move my flaps since i've ripped them off on the trails...getting pintched between the tire and a rock/tree/log and a hard place.

i picked up some trucker mud flaps that are 24x24 but i haven't bolted them up yet...i was going to put them on my swing out tire/jerry can holder but i haven't got around to building it yet.

happy trails

heres a trucker trick,   put a hole in the bottom of your mud flaps big enough for a S hook,  then hook them up to the body when you go offroad, if your sliding over rocks, rig up a quick disconect for removing the flaps

shep

Ya last year on my chevy I got 4 mudflap tickets ( thank god i know a chp that just kept signing them off for me )

I think the mud flaps are DAM UGLY..since ive had my 4runner a few chp/cops have been behind me, and i always get paranoid there going to pull me over for mudflaps, so i dont even have 3 beers and drive, cause you always have that EASY chance to get pulled over..

84runner

The last time they pulled my friend over in his F-350, he said that it shows here that you have gotten quite a few fix it tickets in this so next time we are going to impound it no questions asked  :moon:

Sorry but you're wrong, either that or your runner is registered wrong.
Note the vehicle type on the plate = TRUCK.  The GVWR is 4800 which = 30" legal frame height & just so you don't think I'm showing you a truck vin plate look at the the vin. I even double checked my reg from DMV & it says "UT" for utility vehicle, Mr CHP in Murphys can see me in court if he tries it.

Brandon

I haven't put mine on since my last trip and I drive a pretty good commute on and off the highway. Mud flaps are  :stopit:

Do they make clear rubber for em? ;)

of course I don't run a top or doors either.. or a bed... :)

Funny thing you should ask Brandon, Mine on the big truck are 1/2" clear rubber and quick detachable to boot.  The rubber is freezer door material from a local cold storage.  I use $.69 clips from a tractor supply house to hold mine on.  I just weld 5/16ths nuts to the tube and 5/16x3/4"  bolts to secure the flaps.  The flaps are very dirty otherwise they are pretty clear.  Ive had them on there for a couple of years now and never had any issues with them coming off.

very cool... hmm yea I have seen some pretty heaver freezer flaps! Even the white color is better than black for some reason. I know who cares about looks but ya can't help hating the fugly black

My question is, is there a CHP officer that's not an " A-Hole" as you put it.  I have alot of local PD friends in Fresno and Clovis and even FSO and none are asses like CHP.

well, this was with 28" tires and 4.38 gears.  about 3500 at 65mph and the truck shakes pretty bad with her wide open like that.  i'm afraid to push it farther, i have to put the pedal all the way to the floor and it's LOUD

I hate the mudflap look, but in order to drive my truck I need em so oh well.

I bought my truck recently and the guy that had it used those rubber floor mats as mudflaps.  They're a hell of a lot cheaper and they don't look too bad...You'd think they're too light to work as mudflaps, but they actually stay down.

Actually I believe the frame height limit is 26" on a 4Runner cause it is considered a passenger vehicle , at least thats what one of my local ass's told me when he gave me a sobriety check ( torqe steer from locker lol )

KYOTA

Heres mine. I agree with Brandon, flaps are gay but you gotta have 'em to get to the trails

jimbo74

ill be putting some on when i get a ticket.....

and i am sure i will get nailed during rainy season... just look @ the way my tires sit... the lowest part of the bed is actually above the tire..... and its bobbed, so it will shoot rocks/water out way easily.....
