« on: Aug 30, 2007, 10:54:00 AM »
Hi im david i have a 84 and 85 yoda. My 22re is over heating very quickly. The truck starts and runs great even when its over heating it doesnt seem like anythings wrong. I just put a new water pump in and thermostat. It didnt have one in it before so i thought id see in running one would. All the hoses are new i havent replace the radiator yet but it looks good. I really dont know. i was thing maybe it could have something to do with the timing? Any help would be great. Thanks alot.

I'm unsure but I'd venture to guess that you may have trapped air in your system.

when was the last time the radiator was replaced?  can you see any flow accross the top of the radiator if you look into the fill neck while running?  It could look fine on the outside but still be clogged inside.

I used a toy. 3 core radiator, it fit for me but i have a 2 inch bodylift. might want to check your fan clutch too.  :twocents:

It's not that expensive to put a new radiator and clutch fan in!  Way cheaper than a new motor.  And to help burp the air in the system is to put some sort of T connector that you can open the T part at the heater core lines!  Just open the valve to burp out the air that gets trapped in those lines!  One of the anti-freeze companies makes a kit that pops into the lines and it has a cap that you take off and hook up a garden hose to it, so in theory your filling the radiator from the heater lines!  Which is the highest point of the cooling system!

Toyota's are notorious for taking forever to burp the air out of the system!  Park on a very steep hill has been suggested many times!

Another idea, is how many miles are on the motor?  When you put in the t-stat, what did the surface of the inside cooling surface look like?  Did it have a grayish clay look to it?

Dumb suggestion, but make sure you have a fan shroud!
