The Desert Eagle
« on: Aug 30, 2007, 07:32:10 AM »
Been lurking on here for a while and finally decided to post up pictures of my build(s).

My first build was my 99 Toyota 4Runner Sport
Bought in in November of 2005...met some local yota guys a year later and it went all downhill from there.

Stock January of 2006

Breaking out of the MallKrawler mode

Then from November of 2006 I added a pieced together version of the Sonoran Steel TRD/LandCruiser lift kit, 285/75/16 Goodyear MTR's, BudBuilt Full Belly Skids, Marlin Crawler Sliders and a LockRight Locker.

First run on the new running gear...Crozet, VA

After this trip I realized I couldnt beat on my DD like this and have it last too long so I bought a 1980 LWB Pickup with a blown motor and have begun the new build.

the anti stretch

another fenderless phenomenon

blingin interior

I then swapped in a newer, running motor, welded the rear end and have been beating the hell out of it ever since. I ran into a problem with the wiring harness. I wasnt getting any power in the truck at all.

The Dueler MT's just werent cutting it so thanks to CumminsDZL I have his old boggers out back to compliment the TSL's in the front.

Bogger/TSL combo

my old blinging a$$ grizille

armor-alled :finga:

Had to find the wiring problem...so what better way to access the harness?

A few things are missing now...

Ah...found the missing parts

Added some 85 4Runner Buckets so I can cut the tranny tunnel out in a few weeks for my flatbelly and dual cases.

New seats and harnesses...

Finishing touches on the way to DPG

Black Zack welding up the new seats

Finished

In the next couple of months I will be installing dual stock cases, a w56 tranny, full cab cage, 14" travel shocks and F350 Shock towers. The "To-Do" list on this truck is pretty long as of right now but progress will be made.

I love the combo. CumminsDZL (Eyesore Buildup) ran the same combo for around a year or so and had a lot of success with them. For east coast wheeling we get a lot of wet, muddy rocks so the boggers clean and grip really well. They are a little more of a "throttle" tire but the combo has worked well for myself and a few other guys. Especially since I have a addiction to skinny pedal. I would only ditch this tire combo if I was going to get a competition compound tire.

SICK TRUCKS LOVE THE METALIC

I did too...but CHROME KILLS! Literally. As soon as I had painted it the truck died on the next run. I had to run a new power wire in the wiring harness to fix the problem as well as most of the igniton/firing system.

Fatt Matt was right...  .50 cal Desert Eagle. Metal Mangler had some fun before I picked the truck up.

And Yes...some major progress was made today...

Cleaning the reduction box and cases with the wire wheel...

Justin working his magic on the reduction box...

First Gen "Total Spline" Technology...must be ground down for the reduction box to fit flush to the rearmost case...

UFAB Dual Cases...

Flat Belly XMember...das rite!

Painted up and ready for install

Obligatory gangsta pose with the new cases...

Well I managed to mangle a fair amount of stuff back at Harlan...

1 Clutch Slave Cylinder
1 Clutch Master Cylinder
1 Radiator
1 Fan Blade
1 Headlight
1 Tacoma Grille

I replace the slave and master cylinders at the run and have been letting the truck sit while I gather funds to fix everything. Justin @ UNBREAKABLE let me borrow his custom flatbelly xmember for the run as well so Im rebuilding that too.

On order and awaiting delivery:
New Radiator
2500cfm Electric Fan
Sleeved Bushings from Poly Performance for the crossmember.

I stopped at BudBuilt the other day to return some ratchet straps that Bud let me borrow when I was down picking up sticks of tubing, while I was there I grabbed a TCase backing plate for the crossmember as well.

After seeing the truck sitting around for a month, not moving, I tore it down today after some liquid motivation. Having a case of beer, nothing to do, and some rare warm weather up here, now the cases in place ready to mock up the crossmember when the bushings get here. Stole one from the YWA and used a ratchet strap to hold everything up.

Removed the radiator and began removing the fan in preparation for the new radiator and electric fan.

The entire front end of the truck is disassembled. No headlights, grille etc as well as the overflow reservoir and miscellaneous wiring. Since I have no aspirations of putting this back on the road I removed most of the random wiring running to the old headlights, turn signals etc. Its cleaned up the engine bay significantly.

Once the parts are in later this week/early next week, I will begin re assembling everything and putting the truck back together in a cleaner manner than it was before with reliability and an early December Harlan run as the goal.

Trying to find the usb cable to upload the pictures.

Hopefully disassembling the front axle as well next week to pull the third and drop by Bud's again to pick up an Aussie Locker.
