88, 3.0 ignition read (not done deal ) read on

I have noticed lately my timing has gotten rather sloppy, sometimes it goes sometimes the timing seems way off, verry inconsistent.  I had it apart today and it appeared that the rotor was not a  perfect fit but not really sure.  my question being what is the most likely problem?

1) My shaft in my distrubitor is good with no wobble or side play.
2) Engine now has almost 10k miles on top and bottom end, yes with all new timing components.
3) Help!

In the past I've had issues with the distributor bolt loosening, and the distributor moving on its own. Might want to check that :dunno:

Also, does the cap look like the rotor has contacted it?  If it seems like the rotor is loose, I would replace it.  Mine have always been a very tight fit, with no doubt that it was tight.

If  your dist., rotor, and cap all seem good, check your wires, and check your coil.  Any of them could be faulty, or the coil could be on its way out.  You may have a problem with the computer itself, but lets check the easy stuff first, shall we?

Well I am gonna tell you it is such a random problem, In fact the truck wont start in the morning without the game with the key (ignition). Timing is allover the place you can feel it in the throttle response. Millage is no different than usual. All components replaced 10 or 12 k miles ago.

Another question If the rubber seal was gone would that make a difference on the distrubtor cap?

Thanks

Update 11-19-07
Now I am getting nervious. Have replaced cap and rotor, The old ones were beat, changed but runs the same real poor ignition timing, all over the palace. Engine does seem to miss, randomly. Pulled the code and and came up code #11
meaning Momentary interruption in power supply to ECU  (according to HANES manual)
They are telling me to look at IG sw circuit, main relay and ecu.

My question would be the truck wouldnt start without main relay or IG right?

found some time today. Wires replaced, cap rotor as well. going to break out the handy Fluke meter tomorrow. I will post my results. When motor was built all the vac lines were replaced. hoping its not a bad injector vacuum leak.

As for grease I am a big believer in that moisture barrier thanks

Tps was replaced with borg warner TPS sensor and it did run great for about one week, till battery was disconnected for 24 hours while trans was out. It is running worse then ever and am very close to just ordered the air meter box and the ECU, hell what's another $800.00 bucks.

well went to dealer to pick up truck (got the its done call). pay the bill and guess what it wont start 1058.00 later and its about 20.00 worth better. I did get it to start but timing seems to far advanced, where it was retarded when I dropped it off. Needless to say I didnt take it and left a few a-hole remarks to the guy that took my complaint. Oh what a feeling TOYOTA. And we are expecting snow in the next 24 hours.

Ok 12/27/07 Still no truck, today I called and told them to clean the tank and this is where it got ugly. the guy on the other end told me we cant clean your tank sir there is (rust) in the tank. I called him out on it, he was handling my truck and went on vacation (service rep type). To make a long boring story a little shorter, a guy I went to high school is trying to hook me up. I was told the only way it was leaving the dealership was with a new tank. And was told it would be taken care of for x amount of $ period. Once it all happens I will elaborate on the story. Original guy helping me was milking me and my wallet and insulting my intelligence. The number I set is what they are gonna do it for we shall see?

The truck is home I have put 55 miles on it and it never ran better.
Total bill(s) 1085.00 and than 2000.00 for the second round of work dealer had it for 4 weeks.
Strangest combinations of problems I have seen.
New dealer did while they had it
       Air meter box
Gas tank w fuel pump, and fuel tube assembly
       Temp sensor replaced
Timing belt replaced cause it jumped a tooth
Oxygen sensor replaced  (had it laying around for almost 2 years)
CPU/ replaced although it didnt need one.

Now there is no chance of snow and it was 65 degrees today .

Live and learn, hoefully this post will help the next guy

Green stuff (algea) growing in the gas tank, low fuel pressure, pickup tube clogged, fuel filter clogged, truck was running real bad and driving it anyway I believe caused the timing belt to jump a tooth.

They will get lucky as I dont drive the truck much less than 5k miles a year. I do believe they fixed the problem(s)
They did take 440.00 off the bill. the total on part 2 was $2400.00
