Topic: Cut and Turned Front Axle

What companies sell cut front axle's?  I have a horrible front pinion angle, and need to get a rotated front axle.  About how much do they run?

I've never seen a company sell one.  You could probably order a diamond housing to whatever degree you want, but otherwise, it's a DIY job.

Thats what i was afraid of.  I actually read in 4wd toyota owners mag, that proffitt's cruisers make them for the land cruiser axle's, so maybe i give them a call to see if they do mini truck axle's as well.  I just wanted to see if there was a place that already did them.

It is a harsh pinion angle due to the 5" marlin springs, with a lift shackle.  If i used just rotated perches, it would mess up my steering.  I think i am going to try and save up for a high pinion 3rd with the e-locker.

You need to measure your caster first.
If your whole axle is rotated downward due to springs and shackles, then rotating your perches would bring your axle back to stock caster.
As far as your pinion angle, if you are running duals and a front double cardan driveshaft, it should not be a problem.

i can make one for you i have done plenty of them. i charge $400 bucks for a empty housing cut and turned reinforced perches and solid steer stops. i could do it cheeper but empty housings are not cheap where i live. if you allready have one i could do it cheaper. but if you ever plan to dual case it it is not worth it. but if single cases is what you want then it is perfect. i just did one for my best friend with a 88 4runner with a allpro 6'' sas kitand the good thing about it is that it is next to impossible to pull the stock drive shaft apart. he can only do it if he drives as fast as he can in reverse and slams on his brakes on pavment.

Why is this not a good option if i am running a dual case setup?  I am running dual cases and a tube front d-shafts with the DC.  Mine looks alot like the pics posted above.  If you look at my avaitor pic, you can see how low my front shaft hangs.  I can get some better pics too.

if you allready have dual cases and you want to rotate your axle it's ok just if you rotate it for a single case and you eventualy go to duals then your axle will be rotated to much.

I will keep it in mind.  I will try and get some pics to see what people think would be best, either the high pinion, or having the axle cut and turned.  I am out in CT, so i am not sure where you are, if i decide to have you do the axle, and perches, i have to figure in shipping both ways too.

If you've got an angle grinder and welder, you can do the cut and turn yourself. It's not too difficult, just takes some time to do it right.

I know that profitts crusers sells cut and rotated axles i think the website is www.proffitscruisers.com email him and see if its cheaper if he does it. i dont know if it is cheaper than buying a hp 3rd member

Have you tried some of those degree shims that goes in between the leaf springs and the pads?

I have herd to never use shims up front, it would mess with the caster angles.

You can use shims as long as you don't go too far and as long as the spring bolt goes through the shim and the shim doesn't sit loose.

I dont know exactly, is there an easy way i can measure it or do i have to go to an alignment shop to have it measured?

My current set up is the 5 inch marlin springs up front, with the 5 inch shackle.  No adjustments to the perches other than the flat plate on the drivers side.  I will try and get some pics up today or tomorrow.

If you have an angle finder, you can set it on the flat spot of the steering arm and it will tell ya where your caster is set.

If you have an angle finder, you can set it on the flat spot of the steering arm and it will tell ya where your caster is set.

So, on my marin cross over steering arms, i can place the angle finder on top of where the studs are.  I will do that tonight to check it out.

My Caster angle is at about a 6 degree, so if i put a 4 degree shim in there, it would be fine, b/c for a 4runner, stock is about a 2 degree +/- 1 degree, correct?
