Hey guys ok i am thinking about starting a buildup on my 1967 toyota landcruiser and i have a few ?.
Ok what size axles are in the diffs? i am going too do a spring over  and prob some 35's or so and i was wondering i have a set of 3rds that are locked with 5.29's in them but are the landcruiser diff's 8 inch or what.
Thanks for the help

If you didn't make it, and it ain't broke, you didn't try hard enough.

Most call them a 9 inch.  They are a very tuff design.  The 3rd's that you have wont fit.  If I remember right 67 had what is called a course spline axleshaft.  The birfs, shafts and pinions all had a very course 6 spline to them.  One good thing about having a 67 is the fact that you have a 3 speed trans (unless someone changed it of course) A chevy bellhousing will bolt right up to the 3 speed trans.  If you got any more Q's shoot em'

Dang i was hopeing i could just throw my 3rds into them and have lower gears.
So you are saying that if i put in a v8 swap like i was wanting i could use a chevy bellhousing and it will bolt up too my 3 speed?
Do you think the stock axels would hold up too a 350, under the hood and what about the tranny.
I will prob use a 350 or 383 stroker motor and a turbo 350 tranny with maby duel toyota cases, but do you think i should swap out the axles or will they be strong enough.
Im going too try and keep this one simple and stay with leaf springs because my 82 is getting coil springs so i want too keep this one leaf's.
Thanks for the help white

The drivetrain will hold up to a good bit of abuse.  The problem is you still have birfs, they are weaker in those years.  I put a powertrax in the rear of a buddies 76, with a healthy 350 it has survived well so far.  If you are gonna put duals in it why not use pickup axles too.  That way you would have the repuired center rear diff and stronger setup to boot overall.

are they diffs the same width?
and do you think they will just bolt under the truck using the stock spring perches.
If i go too do a axle sway a buddy of myne has a set of 44's that i would just swap out.

spring width is a bit different.  I cant remember the exact measurements now but a few years ago I was thinking about using a cruiser front axle in my truck.  If I recall the front is actually a bit narrower than a pickup axle.  Not by much but it was about 2" I think

Hey thanks for all the info so far i hope too start on it sometime soon after i get the coils and high steer on my 82 truck.

Prob be a mailly mud truck with some rock crawling i want too keep the body nice thow so i will prob not do any major rock crawling.
Its a nice cruiser with no real bad rust only a lil bit on the rear under the swing away doors where every other cruiser rusts everything else is clean.
Needs some new paint the paint it chipping away alot and needs a dent fixed on the pass rear fender no prob thow a hammer and wood wont fix.

WT I have a LC front axle tube from an FJ 80. I belive it has a 9.25 ring and is 2.5" wider than my pickemup trucks front housing. Are my measurements off :headscratch:
Haven't learned to Crawl Yet but I'm gettin ready to!

WHITE_TRASH

Nope your measurements are correct.  What I was talking about was fj40 not 80. ;)
