14" Shocks?
« on: Jul 31, 2007, 06:24:31 PM »
Hey folks,

Wondering will 14" shocks fit under my 88 4Runner 5 speed, if I had 5" lift with 2" body lift, and 35s. I do not want to put them up through the floor. Anybody bottom out 12" shocks with my setup?

Thanks

Yes they will, I just did it. You have to mount them like an upside down v /\. I ordered the Sky ultra low rear lower shock mounts so that I could weld them to the outside of the axle tube instead of the top, then I fabbed up an upper mount out of 2x2" square tubing. it worked awsome.

Ya i've been taking pic's of the whole build as I go, but they will need to be resized so I figured that I would save all of them up until i'm done and then post a build up thread. If I get around to re-sizing them i'll post a pic of my rear setup.

SLIVER,

Did you relocate the upper custom shock bracket up against the floor? What about the front?

For the back:
What I did for the upper shock mount is use a peice of 2x2 square tubing and I slid it in between the top of my frame and the body, (I have a 1" BL). Then I welded the tubing to the frame on either side and also welded the mounting bolts directly to the square tubing. For the bottom mount I ordered Sky's ultra low, lower shock mount and welded it to the back of the axle tube instead of having the mount on the top of the axle tube.
For the front:
I used the knuckle ball gusset kit from marlin on the axle and also used marlin's "tall" shock hoops. Using these hoops it is necessary to cut away a good portion of the inner fender. All in all it went smooth and should work good. It also looks BIZNASS!

Ya I will post a build up thread here in the near future. I'll have to take some good pics of the rear shock setup.
