depends on whether your looking for the smoothest ride or rock crawling capability. without a doubt the gm's have the smoothest ride because of their IFS, but its a problem if you go on the rocks as you know. costs more to lift as well (can get a 3" lift for around 350 bucks though). gm's hubs can not be rebuilt, when the hub goes bad it needs a complete replacement. i've ridden in all 3 and worked on all of em. better turning radius with IFS as well. you could always do an SAS if you wanted to, but if its not going on the hard rocks i wouldnt really worry about it. since you stated that your looking for a daily driver/tow rig (i'm assuming maybe some mud and dirt trails as well) then either will work just fine. however, ford makes up for their roughest ride (its a 4x4 truck, no big deal) with their availability of the most plush interior (king ranch).

I'd stay away from the GM 6.2, 6.5. had a 6.2 in my 83 one ton. ( heck the DMV thinks it's still in there :shhh: ) it was a gut less POS. then it blew. :yesnod:
now I have a 350 in it. more power.   :twocents:

well, went a few place today, and got to drive a few trucks.  Drove an '05 chevy 2500HD excab, and an '03 F250 crewcab with the 6.0.  They didn't have the 7.3 on the lot, but I wanted to see how the truck handled, drove, room, and all that crap.  I did also, on CTENG's recommendation, drive an '05 tundra.

The chevy was nice, leather int. and everything, and it felt like I was driving my dad's tahoe, nice and smooth, soaked up the road bumps like they weren't even there, and the engine was quiet, almost no sound inside the cab, acceleration was good, handling was good, braking was good.

The ford was awesome!! I loved the amount of room in the cab, even with the driver's seat all the way back, I could fit comfortably in the seat behind it (6'6") I felt the ride was comfortable, but not totally smooth like the chevy.  Felt more like a truck :gap:  That thing got up and went too, when I stepped onto it on the freeway!  :woohoo:  that thing was a blast to drive.  plenty of power, it handled reay well IMO, and the braking was ok.  I reallly want to drive a 7.3 now.  I've ridden in one, but never driven one.

The tundra was very nice.  It had a nice smooth ride, very good acceleration, and the safety features were great.  I tested the 4x2 version, they didn't have a 4x4 on the lot.  I wasn't thrilled with the setup of the interior, wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.

ford 6.0 has less power than the duramax. if you can find a ford with the 7.3 in good shape (and of course you like it) grab it, if it has a manual tranny it should be a very reliable vehicle.

being 6'6" i can see why you like the room in the ford!
