22r head question

no, the 85 and up are all the same, and the 84 and old are all the same. The 84 and older trucks have a differant block, with differant pistons. They have pop up pistons. The newer motors have flat top pistons.

Anyone know witch engine would be better to rebuild. I have the 84 and older block and the 85 and newer engine.  I hear the 85 and up have more horse power but no as much torque as the older ones.

both good engines. I'd go with the one that's in the best shape and you have the right parts for. i had an 81 and an 86 both carberated. both stock and power wise both pretty much the same. the 86 seemed to have more torque but it had a 4.10 and the 81 had a 3.90 with a l45, so it's not fair to say the 86 had more torque. hp about the same, id say the 81 reved better. where the real sock hp increase came from in the 85 and above motors was with the fuel injected models as far as i know. the motor i have now is a 84 block with 20r head..  torque like a 22r and revs like a 20r..

Is it true that the heads with the round exhaust holes are only for carb.  I noticed that the block didn't even have a spot for the knock sensor.
