Thanks 1985efiyota! I was thinking I would try to get the LONG's in when I geared the thing. I figure at that point, I am taking everything apart and cleaning it, replacing seals and whatnot. I am also putting some torque through the drivetrain at that point... Not that a stock drivetrain with 42's isnt whipping the power out now....... ::) :shake: :dunno: :hammer: :nope:

Thanks again!

I have also made some new changes. I mentioned before that I have been trying to eliminate my death wobble. This is something that I had when I did the SAS and tires, but I didnt know what was causing it. I changed too many things at the same time. So, I have been working to figure out what it is. So far I have tried shorter (more stable) shackels, different alignments, and so forth. None of these things have helped so far.

As of today, I am down to (a very managable) and small amount of DW. It started out so bad that it would shake the truck off the road into another lane or off to the side. Now it is no more than a shake (like a tire vibration) at one speed, and it goes away in a few seconds. Heres what I did:

-Changed the tires to a really nice set of 37" MTR's on 15x10" wheels. (didnt help)

-Removed the front leaf pack (a combo of rear 1990 yoda and ford leafs) and installed a set of 1985 rears. I am not sure if these are lift springs or not, but they had all the clamps and hardware still. Also, they are thicker leafs. So I might have lost some flex, but who cares if you cant drive it!

This involved putting shackle mounts through the frame, removing the pinion shims that were on the old springs, and some new u-bolts and 3/4" through bolts. I gained about 2" of wheelbase, and might have to change my high steer alittle. We'll see about that though.

-I also installed a steering shock. I got this from a local circle track shop. It is only $30 and is a basic (non-gas) racing shock from AFCO.

Cliff Notes: I HAVE MORE PICS!!!

Try the BB balancing trick, and double check all steering make sure its tight, also check the front bushings. My truck has zero death wobble on 42''s, it had it at one time but I tightened everything up, and now its gone, and I havent done the BB trick yet

Nice truck,
But man do you need to move your steering box forward about 3 inches if not more....your steering geometry looks jacked up....... Correct that and it should clear up a lot of bump steer. But once that is corrected check the pre load on your knuckle bearings (trunnions)...11-13lbs on a fish scale.........then it should drive like a stock truck.....both my rigs do! Good luck there are a lot of good right ups on this on pirates and probably here to

Thanks for the info. The steering kinda ended up that way. I didnt realize the pin was that different in location from one spring to the next. Still 0 bump steer though. The ONLY issues that I am having are the tiny bit of wobble and the smell of the swamp I drove though last summer.

Thanks alot for the info though.

Not 100% yet... BUt I think that I am going to be redrilling the leaf packs to allow a ~2" center bolt location change. This sheit should be money then....wwwhattt!...

I might be putting this rig FOR SALE after memorial weeked. I am in talks right now about picking a 2g 4runner up. I already have a bunch of killer parts for it in my shed.

I'll let everyone know as I find out.
