Has anyone built a Trail Runner?
« on: Jul 09, 2007, 09:10:09 PM »
After rolling my truck last week I have decided that I need to build an IFS truck for trail running.  My solid axle with 35s is great in the mud and rocks...  But not much for those high speed airial manuvers, the landings suck too!     So before anyone freaks out, I still have my slightly damaged 83 / 87 Punisher Yoter with the 35s...  And as soon as I can find another cab, it will be good as new...  Secretly deep down though I have always wanted to build a desert racer...  Or trail runner...  And I just happen to have a 92 IFS truck sitting here...  Just wondering if anyone has built anything like that...  I'm looking for--->  good travel (for an IFS) in the front with lots of compression dampening for jumps, low center of gravity, super flexy cushy suspension in the rear with lots of droop...   :dunno:

total chaos is your best option.
or have someone in cali who does SCORE, build you a custom J-arm setup.

i have a few guys who do it and who build there own front ends.

as for the rear.... link it and coil the rear.
talk to anyone who is in SCORE/BAJA.
they know the best setups.

It just needs a bandaid, and it will be all better. I guess the bumper didn't fare well. Is that a luggage rack above the cab?  I hope the roll didn't knock any sense into you.   :beerwhack:

Luggage rack???
That is a custom kayak and canoe carrier/light bar/snowboard rack/cb antenna mount.   :eyebrow:
It actually kept me from rolling on the top.

That's not body damage, That's experience.

So, which one inspired this mod: beer or testosterone?

just pull out the BFH and then the glass shop might be able to put a new ws in.

After a very long weekend, I got the motor finished and installed in my soon to be "Trail Runner".  After a few brake issues (insect larve in the brake booster vaccum line = kinda hard to stop), and replacing a thermostat and relay on my Flex-a-lite Black Magic fan (not too magical if you ask me), it is back on the road.

The rear has Downey 2" lift springs and as soon as I get my longer shackles I am going to install the 1.5" ball joint spacers that I have on the front.
